Does anyone know of a notepad program that automatically keeps its data on the SD card (or automatically backs up and restores)? That would make it easier when doing the backup/install new ROM/wipe process.

I was having. The same problem I would lose half my battery overnight go to the market on your phone download. Close everything 2. When you go on different sites it stores them and whe you click icon you can pick wich apps. You never closed other than that click close it shows what is open my battery lasts overnight with hardly any drain as long as the right apps. Are closed

    @matdavis,

When you find such an app, let me know.

Right now I have a shortcut to the Evernote mobile site on my phone, but that doesn’t help when I don’t have network connectivity.

@AndroidFan ive got beautiful widgets, twidget lite, facebook, taskiller, cm updater, shazam, and teeter

  • AndroidFan

@matdavis: I use Text Edit by Paul Mach for a notepad type app. You keep the file on your SD (root not required). On your puter you can add, edit, copy.paste, etc by opening the file on your SD via your USB cable. Great for times when a regular keyboard is a must.

    Matdavis,
Try NoteEverytghing Pro with Sync. You can sync all notes to a website.

  • jizza

4.1.11, used since inception. Clean wipe, class 6 A2SD.

Random battery drains. Home screen reboots (some unsuccessfu). Slower keboard than 404. Missed calls with full service. Gps lock is faster. Sometimes keypressing allowed while locked. Widgets don’t always update on reboot (weatherbug).

    Beer bounty for next stable!

  • AndroidFan

If you are using high-demand of data apps, then your battery drain.

Facebook apps, Twitter type apps, GPS anabled apps, Pandora Radio, WeatherBug, Locale just to name a few.

  • DancingWombat

    @AndroidFan

Yes, we understand that high-demand apps drain the battery faster. I’ve already adjusted for that in my observations.

  • jizza

    +1 for what Wombat said….

No one should be surprised that while driving, you use gas…

Problem comes when you fill up, park it, come back and its on 25%

Also forgot to mention that the home button doesnt work (yes i know others have said it)

  • jumphrey

    With respect to matdavis’s question.
If you use 3banana it sync’s with a site online so when you reinstall you just have to re-sync.
Uses gmail for authentication to so that’s a breeze

Anyone else having problems uploading video to YouTube via the YouTube app?

Noticed when I hit space bar on the physical keyboard, the phone either doesn’t register it, presses it twice, or it’s normal.

  • dancingwombat

I noticed that my battery had dropped to 81%, in 2 hours. I’d done nothing but have the phone freshly booted, then a full charge, and run gmail and email. Not even the browser or Maps. I wrote one long-ish email, received 4, and one text message.

Stats: More battery data, from the Battery display in Settings.

    “While last unplugged for 2h 6m 32s”
    43% Cell standby
    31% Phone Idle
    19% Display.
    4% akmd
Android System, Gmail, and Email, round out the list at 2% each.

Cell Standby was “on” for 2h 6m 32s,
    Idle for 1h 29m, 38s,
    Display on for 36m 54s

    Screen brightness is 30-40%

  • flubba86

Is there any way of making the sound louder while recording video? I am grateful that sound is even working now, but seriously I have to basically yell into the phone to get any decent volume audio in the resulting video.

  • DancingWombat

Crap. I haven’t seen it on the site yet, but Google just served Cyanogen with a C&D. No more ROMs, at least for a while?

    http://androidandme.com/2009/09/hacks/cyanogenmod-in-trouble/

Great job, Google. I bought the phone because I knew your “open” platform would entice people to create things like Cyanogen’s work. Now that I can’t count on that, I’m not nearly so attached to the platform

Note: Yes, I know they’re going after him for distributing the closed parts of their software, but he’s right that we all have licenses by virtue of owning the phones.

  • flubba86

wow, that is some bad news. he should be able to keep making roms if the market and other google apps are taken out, and we just put them on ourselves.

  • http://www.JoeLevi.com Joe Levi

    @DancingWombat

Agreed, the ROMs don’t do you any good without the phone, and the phone “comes with a license” so what’s the big deal?

    http://www.JoeLevi.com

  • Rich

Easiest solution to the google mess is:

    1. DON’T DISTRIBUTE ANYTHING WITHOUT A LICENSE.
    but
    2. Go ahead and make a ROM that works great with all of the usual closed source apps (whether published by Google or whoever).
    3. Make it really easy for users to install those apps if they happen to have them.

Some have suggested that users installing their own Google apps is not legal. I don’t see any distribution involved here – a user is uninstalling an app from their phone (by virtue of wiping it out of flash), and then reinstalling that same app onto the same phone. You don’t need a license if you aren’t copying software.

However, regardless of the merits of this argument, frankly, it isn’t really cyanogen’s concern what people install on their own phones. As long as he isn’t the one doing it he should be clear. No doubt some people install pirated software on Ubuntu, but that doesn’t make the Ubuntu team responsible.

And yes, it would be great to have some open-source alternatives to the proprietary google apps. Then everybody could use them (even those who don’t own phones that came with them).

It isn’t all that uncommon in the linux world for software to be distributed without key parts (such as a binary firmware blob) – users are told where to get it legally, and what to do with it. No distribution, no C&D letter.

This isn’t the end of the world by a long shot.

I am having problem syncing with Google calendar (does not sync) . Contacts sync ok.
Running 4.1.11.1 on HTC Magic. Anybody can help
It will be greatly appreciated…rest of the functionality is absolutely great; pity to “lose” it

  • http://www.cmisak.com CraigM

    @George

Had the same problem you’ll need to uncheck all the boxes for automatic sync in settings than leave settings come back in a min or two and re-check them…

Fixed it for me not sure why or what was really going one but it worked.

  • http://none George

@ CraigM I have tried that but it does not work.. :(
    Anyway many thanks …

  • emp0wer

Running 4.1.11.1 since release, stable and fast, did wipe, glad I did, w0w

  • http://bobgarontraining.com/2009/09/12-keys-to-rapid-fat-loss-guide-to.html Bob

How exactly do I install the ROM? I am rooted and have the Cyanogen app. I downloaded to my SD card the latest build, but when I “APPLY” it and then reboot into recovery mode it I do that. Once in Recovery Mode it gives me the option to:

    1. reboot system now [Home+Back]
    2. apply sdcard:update.zip [Alt+S]
    3. wipe data/factory reset [Alt+W]

I choose #2 and then it says it is
    Finding the update package…
    Opening the update package…
    Verifying the update pacakage,
    E:No signature (377 files),
    E:Verification failed,
    Installation aborted.

    –Install From sdcard…
    Finding the update package…
    Opening the update package…
    E:Can’t open /sdcard/update.zip
    (No such file or directory)
    Installation aborted.

I tried renaming the modded ROM file to “update.zip” and still nothing. I have no idea how to do this. I tried to look for a way to get this to work, but have come up empty handed. I hope someone here can please help.

    Thanks

  • emp0wer

Try renaming it to update (no .zip), now try again, let me know how u get on?

  • emp0wer

Bob, rename it to “update” without .zip and try again.

  • dancingwombat

    @Bob:
What has happened is that you do NOT have a new recovery image installed (that menu you get when you boot with home+power). I can tell because you don’t have enough menu choices.

Without something like the cyanogenmod or JesusFreak recovery image, you cannot flash custom ROMs. You may have installed a new recovery image at one time, but if the STOCK firmware boots, even from a modified recovery image, then the firmware itself will overwrite the recovery image with the STOCK one.
You have to root again, flash the recovery image again, and then get the custom firmware installed WITHOUT letting the stock firmware boot up.
You haven’t done any damage or anything, you just have to start over.

I went back to 4.0.4 because I can’t use the bluetooth features on 4.1.11.1 Has anyone noticed the Bluex app doesn’t allow send or receive with this version? I also had trouble with tetherwifi because my laptop never recognized filesharing or tethering features until I down-graded. Also, I had a lot of errors with apps not recognizing super-user permissions…perhaps I screwed it up somehow…but I don’t ever remember messing with the lib. Bottom line, mytouch3g runs much smoother and stable with the 4.0.4 release, minus the extra stuff gone. :( Next ROM is gonna be much better I hope! Btw…thanks CyanogenModder! Your Roms are MUCH better than ANYONE ELSE!

  • Greg

Just updated to this rom from 4.0.4 and now the market does not work. sorry for this next question but now i don’t have 3g, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

  • Joe

On 4.1.11.1, it has been great so far. I did a wipe before installing. The one thing I noticed is that it doesn’t have a option to have both vib & ring. I don’t know if it is left out of 1.6 or if it was some how not brought in. Other wise I haven’t seen any real operating issues yet, been three days. I have to say I’m glad the google thing is getting worked out. I thought google was cool for a minute for letting people do as they like. It still had google’s name all over it and cyanogen only made it better, thus improving they’re name. But what ever. I say jump over to openmoko and hack out a ubuntu mobile based rom leave android in the dust if they can’t work it out. Thanks for the hard work cyanogen!

  • Gabriel

I have had 4.1.11.1 for about two weeks now and it is awesome. Very fast!

I have tethering for root users and it works great john. However, I am not sure if it is the cyanogen rom (it was doing it before i flashed it; maybe cos it wasnt rooted before) but whenever i have my earphones plugged in, as soon as i get a call or a message the sound on the phone completely goes away for messages, media and phone calls. The phone makes no sound whatsoever until i reboot. And it sucks cos when im at work and im listening ot a podcast or something i am constantly getting emails and messages so i reboot about every thirty minutes now, it sucks.

any suggestions before i have to wipe, and reflash to go back down to the stable cyanogen rom?
