4.1.10.1

September 16th, 2009

Latest and greatest is 4.1.10.1. A nice surprise in this version!

  • ThyMYthOS

    > Reformat your SD card, wipe, install latest version, sync, reboot.

    What do you mean by “sync”?

  • schtuka

    Just a few things:
    End button doesn’t work in option Go Home then Sleep.
    Alarming Alarm apk force closes at settings, but alarms work.

  • dancingwombat

    @easy2contact:
    I had the EXACT same issue. Even after I properly wiped, and reinstalled, 4.0.4 still would not connect to telecom data (phone and WiFi were fine). APN settings did not help me. I actually ended going 4.0.4->4.1.7->4.0.4 and then it worked.

    I did a lot of googling but could not find the true reason for this. 4.0.4 was my first custom ROM after T-Mobile stock ROM.

    I would recommend trying 4.0.2, and then 4.0.4, or trying 4.1.10.1. The new 4.1 stuff is unbelievably fast, but 4.0.4 is quite fast and also has nice extra apps like QuickOffice and whatnot.

    Hey guys, where can I get the Fix_Permission app? I tried downloading it from this web but the link provided isn’t working.

    Does the new updates from CM already contain the latest fix_permission scripts in them at re-boot?

    thanks!

  • Andrew

    I am getting a lot of force quits for the touch screen app. Am rolling back to Stable now.

    If you’re seeing a lot of FC’s make sure you’ve got your SD card partitioned! Holy crap, I did that, now I have almost no FCs and the speed is even faster.

    My $0.02.

    @Joe Levi

    Do you have a good very stupified tutorial for someone to follow on Formatting your SD with a Linux-Swap and ext4? and how to get it to work with the automatic Apps2sd included in the Cyanogen Builds? I’ve read i need to wipe and do a reinstall with the newly formatted card…

    Is that true? and the any very detailed tutorial would be nice.

    As for 4.1.10.1 the multi-touch zooming in the web browser is unresponsive and a little jerky at times i find using two hand works better than pinching with the same hand. Not sure if thats a hardware or a software issue.

  • Simon

    Shouldn’t be the new market app from Donut in this rom? I updated from 4.1.9.1 to this rom (without wiping. I don’t want to wipe with every release often a few times a week). My market app is the same as in Cupcake.

    Greetings,

    Simon

  • http://www.JoeLevi.com Joe Levi

    @Craig,

    First, backup EVERYTHING on your sdcard, following the steps below will erase EVERYTHING on your card (or so the instructions say).

    I would HIGHLY recommend the Maximum PC article (even though it slanders Cyanogen) at http://bit.ly/android-partition . It’s got a great walk-thru of how to set up the partitions… the link to the sdparted.txt file is broken in the article, so use this link instead: http://bit.ly/sdparted

    Enjoy!

  • dancingwombat

    @Craig: The middle of this article is good for partitioning guidance: http://lifehacker.com/5350347/speed-up-and-back-up-your-rooted-android-phone

    @Simon: The new Market is there. And this is one release where you *really* want to wipe. The transition to Donut code in 4.1.10.1 seems to really want a good cleaning out of settings.

    If you don’t want to wipe all the time, stick to stable? I don’t know, it takes me all of 5 minutes to restore my settings after a fresh reboot.

  • http://www.JoeLevi.com Joe Levi

    @Craig,

    I would HIGHLY recommend the Maximum PC article (even though it slanders Cyanogen) at http://bit.ly/android-partition

    Search Google for the sdparted.txt file (the link in the article is broken).

    @scammah: Eventually it came up on the CMUpdater. I had some issues at first probably due to a theme I had installed on 4.0.4, but eventually after wiping and reformatting my SD got this put on. Thanks for the info.

    One other thing…I’ve read a lot about compcache…is that something that is automatically set up within this rom, or is that something I have to do myself seperately? I couldn’t tell by reading the changelog if it just has the capabilities or is actually doing it.

  • cashmony

    Aight I’m a newbie to all this but started with 4.04 loved it! tried a some Hero roms all were laggy or had to mod to much to get it to run, 4.1.10.1 is tha sssshhh! Luv the the new market and universal search, multitouch slight lag but still cool. Wanna try some new themes, old ones dont work, any suggestions?

  • Andrew

    Ok, I have taken the SD card, Partitioned it, formatted, and reinstalled. Now the FC’s are gone. However, has anyone else noticed that the Security Pattern is not functioning?
    Also, I have a widget called “Power Control” which is intermittently non functional… Sometimes it loads correctly sometimes not, black box that indicates the issue…

  • wonder75

    #49…. still having the problem with not being able to lock the screen with power. #49 said, that i should “Try just redo your options in display settings for End button behavior.” Where would that be possible?

  • ben

    Hi,

    i can’t lock my screen. Rest is cool. The POWER button just does nothing when trying to lock the screen from Home…

  • http://www.JoeLevi.com Joe Levi

    @Andrew:

    My “security pattern” screen is working fine with the partitioned card and 4.1.10.1.

    Did you wipe before you flashed 4.1.10.1?

    http://www.JoeLevi.com

  • http://www.JoeLevi.com Joe Levi

    @Wonder75:

    Home > menu button > settings > security & location

    uncheck and recheck Require Pattern, then “change unlock pattern” to something else.

    To to reproduce.

    http://www.JoeLevi.com

  • Simon

    @dancingwombat Do you know where the settings for the market app is saved? After updating the ROM I deleted the /data/system directory. Only /data/data left. When I wipe can I restore my /data/data directory?

  • Mezmorized

    how long does it take to get off boot screen? 5 mins and counting..whats normal?

  • http://gregsantos.net Greg Santos

    Hello,
    Gmail is not synching on this or the last release.
    Anyone experienceing this prob? Have a solution?
    Thanks
    GS

  • AndroidFan

    Yeah CamCorder audio fixed in upcoming Mod! Hopefully Qik will work correctly now too…

    @Mezmorized: First boot about 2 minutes. If it froze then remove battery and boot again.

    @Greg Santos: Did you verify under; Settings/Data syncronization that Auto-sync and Gmail are checked?

  • Michael Adick

    @cashmoney:
    i personally like the Enoch theme (for CM experimental it’s Enoch.X) – most of all the dev is very fast, everytime a new CM version comes out, his theme is updated for the new version almost instantly…

  • adam

    Everything functions perfectly. Gmail syncing fine; as is the power button behavior and lock screen pattern. Tried to reproduce problem reported earlier; but could not.
    Thanks!!

  • schtuka

    @14. Spare parts/End button behavior/choose sleep as Home/Sleep is not working for me either.

  • schtuka

    You can try this partitioning method with Ubuntu

  • yz99

    I have posted this before but haven’t got any feedback. I’m posting it here and hopefully you android expert(s) here can answer the question:

    One of the complains that I have with Android is that it shutdown the program(s) that I’m using whenever it “sees fit”. I can understand that when memory is low, or a process is out of wack, it needs to be shutdown, but with 250MB+ free memory on mytouch and when a process is NOT consuming cpu, it still gets shutdown, many times as soon as I swtich to a different app (and come back). The restarting of the program and restore of states is not much of an issue in this case, the much bigger problem is that most of the programs I’m using talk to the internet – re-downloading and rendering the contents take quite bit time to the point it becomes an annoyance.

    Can this behavior be changed in custom ROM such as CyanogenMod?

    thanks,

  • Adam

    Okay… I’ve Soft-Bricked my phone twice now! I have a MyTouch and just reverted everything back to factory (“unrooted” and reloaded the original recovery). I rooted again from scratch using the method here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547133) with the “Revert to 32B radio and ROM” method, using cyanogen’s recovery image and the 4.1.10.1 ROM.

    IT SOFT-BRICKED AGAIN (boot screen loop).

    Whats going on? Any ideas? Are cyanogen’s ROMs not 32B, because I swore I’m almost positive I was running a 4.0.x previously?

  • schtuka

    @26 You should post what you have done to your MT3G if you have a problem. I am not an expert by any means, but do know that if you need an answer you need to let ppl know what and how you got to this point.

  • DancingWombat

    Woohoo! Just upgraded to 4.1.11, and QuickOffice and PDFViewer work again! I haven’t tested the audio recording stuff yet.

  • yz99

    @28 Thanks for responding to my post. I’m not saying there is a problem. The behavior I described is the same with stock version on mt3g. I believe this is by design of android os. However, I think this is a design lacking consideration, and want to know the default android behavior can be changed when a custom ROM is created, such as CyanogenMod.

  • Adam

    Disregard my last post… Just got 4.1.11 working!!!!! What is the difference between the 14 MB 4.1.10.1 that didn’t work for me and the 4.1.11 that did?

  • Land-of-Mordor

    Hey, what happened to “stable” version? there’s no updates since 4.0.4….we’re waiting…. ;)

  • http://gl0rify.com Stefing

    Could you please recommend a Radio and SPL to use with each of these releases? These seem to have a big effect on results.

  • Stefan

    Just upgraded to the latest cyano experimental, and it seems my phone doesnt enter sleep mode anymore. Looking in spareparts > battery usage, its running 100% of the time.

    Anyone else encountered this problem / fixed it?

  • Wayne

    Upgraded last night, everything is running FAST and no problems so far!! I did a clean install on my G1.

  • MojUK

    Hey guys, i’m currently running MCR 2.2 on my Orange branded HTC Hero handset. I’ve heard lots of good things about cyanogen’s release’s, and have been looking through this site today and they sound cool – donut oh yes!! Question is does this rom work on the Hero and if so which version is the best to put on? I saw stable as 4.0.04 or something i think? and latest is this one…what ya all reckon?

    Peace out

    Moj

  • http://www.cmisak.com Craig

    @Adam

    Happened to me too, I used this method (below) and it worked well… i started with 4.1.9.1 upgraded every experimental since now running 4.1.11.1

    http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-to-root-a-t-mobile-g1-and-mytouch-3g-android-phone/

    I don’t wanna keep mudding up this post with the same post, if you wanna chat to see what maybe we did different goto my website and find my contact information (Click user name)

    Than we’ll post the solution on here for everyone (if we find it).

  • Chris Eckman

    @Clavs

    You don’t need to download the fix_permission.sh file.

    It’s already in the build. Just execute it in the terminal by typing “fix_permissions”.

  • http://www.JoeLevi.com Joe Levi

    What do I need to do to take full advantage of A2SD and a partitioned SD card?

    http://www.JoeLevi.com

  • PyjamaPete

    The top rounded corners on v4.1.11 are hideous… why on earth do Apple and all the rest think that your OS is better if you pretend you are looking at it on a CRT? Ick! Poor design.

    And another thing…. RANT… you can now hide the notification bar whilst using the browser – GREAT – but why the hell do I need to see the page title permenantly? I can tend to tell the page based on the content… couldn’t they make the title part of the ‘page’ in-so-much-as I could scroll and it would go with the scroll…

    Oh, and as an aside CM rocks!

  • Paul McGrath

    Great work and thanks for the mods!

    I’ve just upgraded a UK Vodafone HTC Magic (bought on E-bay – and containing a T-mobile SIM) ;-)

    Installed latest stable build (4.0.4 build) by following the URL at #38 above.

    Then installed cyanogen-updater from Android Marketplace

    Ran “CM Updater” (cyanogen-updater) – and pressed “Check” button -> “No updates found”
    Hit Menu button and then “Configuration” – and enabled Experimental options (themes and ROMs).

    Pressed “Check” button again – found latest experimental.
    Downloaded – and installed.

    To everyone who worked on this – big thanks!

    Can anyone point me at the instructions to migrate from stable to latest experimental build ?

  • DancingWombat

    @Paul McGrath

    1. Have your SD card partitioned.
    2. Boot up, wipe the phone, re-install the Experimental firmware. The current differences between 4.0 and 4.1 leave a lot of crud behind, so that you want to wipe your settings out.

  • http://www.cmisak.com Craig

    @Joe Levi and @Simon

    I got nowhere on formatting my SD card with both of those approaches (But i appreciate the reply) @Joe i can’t type into the terminal because i don’t have a physical keyboard… and @Simon the Live disk wouldn’t see my SD card (tried everything) but nothing.

    Do you guys have any other alternatives to doing this?

  • http://www.cmisak.com Craig

    @Joe Levi and @ dancingwombat (sorry @Simon)

    After getting frustrated with some of the other alternatives i could find online i came back to @dancingwombat solution. I had to pull the card and load it into a little USB reader thing that came with the card. But i was able to do everything i needed.

    Now how do i tell its working? I put it back in and than rebooted my phone with a battery pull too.

    Thanks for your help so far :)

  • http://www.JoeLevi.com Joe Levi

    On a related note, I just found an OCZ 8GB Class 6 card (super fast) for $26, if you want to set up a swap partition! http://bit.ly/3OD4BM

    http://www.JoeLevi.com

  • http://www.JoeLevi.com Joe Levi

    @Craig:

    How do you tell if it’s working? The way I knew was that my FCs dropped from “often” to “rarely ever” and everything just ~seemed~ more responsive and quicker.

    Anyone know another way?

    http://www.JoeLevi.com

  • AndroidFan

    Hey Peeps! It is NOT required that you partition your SD card to use Cyanogen Mods.

  • AndroidFan

    @Paul McGrath: RE; your comment #42, I am confused.

    You said you installed the latest experimental build. Then you asked for instructions on how to go from stable to experimental.

  • http://www.JoeLevi.com Joe Levi

    @AndroidFan,

    You’re absolutely correct, partitioning your SD card is not REQUIRED.

    I would highly recommend doing it, but Cyanogen’s ROMs (especially his stable ROMs) work ~just fine~ with the stock sdcard and no “special” partitioning.
