postheadericon 4.1.7 has landed

Latest and greatest is 4.1.7! New version of BFS and lots of new supporting code. Some other bugs fixes, and also a new version of the HTC_IME that I ported from Hero. Get it now with CM Updater!

    You are definitely on fire!

  • Victor:

I installed it first thing in the morning.
Installed ok, no problems I can see yet.
Don’t push yourself too much, we could have waited another couple of days.
I, for one, just want you to keep doing this for a looong time.

    Thanks, you rock!!!

  • Colin Small:

How do you use the ported Hero keyboard? I think it’s the normal Android keyboard that I get.

  • Victor:

@Colin Settings>Locale&Text deselect Android keyboard, select Touch Input. Go to a textbox and try it.

This is not the best place to ask for help though!

  • Colin Small:

Got it now. Thanks! What’s the deal with the warning? Where is the security risk with what you type? is it stored locally or sent somewhere or what?

  • Tom:

@colin: I think it just means the keyboard app has access to what you type (naturally) which, with a malware app, could be problematic of course. No problem here though.

Has Cyanogen hinted at which version he has in aim for the next stable release? I.e. is it pretty close or weeks away? I’m still on 4.0.4 but the jet fuel and all that jazz is becoming irresistible :)

  • Victor:

@Tom I think it’s “probably a couple of weeks” to the next stable release.

  • Tom:

Ok, that’s it! I’m going experimental!

  • Matthias:

Nice thing, no Errors so far only with the “Toggle Settings”-App. But this is because “Donut”-Code I think.

    But User.Conf aka userinit.sh doesn’t work anymore…

  • Thanks very much for the new release. I will install it as soon as I can and I try to find problems and probable fixes.

  • fido:

just upgraded from 4.0.4. everything went fine without need for wiping. no problems so far.

    thanks for your great work!

  • Vitamin D:

I had a few random reboots and random music with 4.1.6…let’s see if 4.1.7 fixes that. One thing I have noticed is that Picasa Uploader is not working. Can anyone else verify that? It does not detect my other albums and when I attempt to upload an image it fails almost instantly. I can’t update Google Maps to the latest version either, it says package is not signed, maybe a market issue?

  • I really like the speed and other features of the experimental build, but the battery life seems to be even shorter than it already was. Is this something that will be fixed later or are the G1 users better off with the stable release?

  • Enrique Canals:

I’m loving 4.1.7, great mod. Found a bug with the music player. It continues playing music even after answering a phone call. Keep up the amazing work Cyanogen, you’re the man!

  • Adrian:

Any way I could get in touch with cyanogen to talk privately ?

  • AndroidFan:

@ VitaminD: Picasa Upload on v416 worked for me.

@ Shane: I notice a lot of peeps mentioned bad battery life with v416, but I didn’t have any problems with battery life…

@ Adrian: You can talk privately TO Cyanogen via a direct tweet. He has MANY peeps wanting to talk to him privately, so if he doesn’t reply, he’s TOO busy debugging to be bugged.

  • Vitamin D:

Downloaded Picasa Uploader from the Market and over-wrote My Uploader and it works like normal now…so My Uploader is broken?

  • I’m a bit confused…
In http://www.cyanogenmod.com/downloads/experimental-rom I see some template-cm* and update-cm*. I’m not installing through the CM Updater, and have been flashing the update-cm* but is it the right one?
Is those the ROMs used by the CM Updater, thus are not suitable for a raw flash, or whats the deal?

  • AndroidFan:

@VitaminD: Yes I had an issue uploading to Picasa with v417.

After you installed Picasa Media Uploader from Market, do you use the PixelPipe to upload? My Picasa Upload is still not uploading…

  • AndroidFan:

@ChrisBuchholz: Yes manually flash the “update”(not template) of your choice. Those are the roms used in the CM Updater. Some peeps like me, like to do it manually, after a clean wipe, for extra clean installs.

  • Vitamin D:

@AndroidFan Nope, after downloading Picasa Uploader from the marketplace and overwriting the default uploader that is packaged with 4.1.7 everything is peachy. I can sucessfully go to ‘Share > Picasa’ and upload an image like normal.

  • Vitamin D:

@AndroidFan: No. I just downloaded Picasa Uploader, overwrote the uploader than is packaged with 4.1.7 and it worked like it should normally, I’m now able to go to Share > Picasa and sucessfully upload images to my account.

  • 66% after three hours of ontime..no talk time and barely any data usage

  • Josh:

Updated on my MyTouch 3G from 4.1.6. Everything is running smoothly aside from HTC_IME. Touch Input still persistently crashes on load. It won’t show the board at all. So, like with 4.1.6, I’m sticking with the good ol’ android board. I’m not seeing the significant battery life issues that a few others are.

  • Anpan:

    @Shane
What do you mean by “ontime”? Was the phone just lying there or did you actively use it?

How is battery life compared to the original 1.5 ROM?

  • tony:

does installing a new build affect the battery calibration in any way?

  • AndroidFan:

@VitaminD: How exactly did you overwrite? I know it sounds noob, but it didn’t work for me.

And it was PICASA MEDIA UPLOADER that you DL’d from Market correct?

  • @Anpan: By ontime, I just meant it being powered up. I haven’t been using it much at all. I have since updated to 4.1.7 and wiped to see if that helps.

  • Vitamin D:

@AndroidFan It asked me if I wanted to overwrite the existing My Uploader or something as soon as I tried to install Picasa Uploader and I said yes…I should of payed more attention.

I have had some more reboots w/ nothing running, just the phone sitting in my pocket. I’ve also noticed the battery life is quite a bit worse.

  • AndroidFan:

@ VitaminD: I don’t see PICASA UPLOADER on the Market.

  • @Anpan: Oh, and the reason I’m noticing the bad battery life is because it’s MUCH worse than the 1.5 build or even 4.0.4

  • Vitamin D:

@AndroidFan: Weird. You’re not the first person to tell me that either. I found it in “My Downloads” since I previously downloaded it and I was able to reinstall it that way….I can’t find it by searching for the item…

    It does exist: http://androidstats.com/ranking/application/1586

  • Anpan:

@Shane: Thanks for the information. I guess I’ll keep 4.04 and wait for the next stable release.

  • AndroidFan:

@VitaminD: Can you back-up your applications then post the apk for Picasa Uploader that you have? I can not find the apk on a CLEAN website. The only one available is a Trojan website found via Google.

  • emmanuel:

I seem to be having issues with the end key. It’s not locking my phone or doing anything for that matter. I have “spare parts” installed and set to Home, Then End, but the key is doing nothing at all.

  • emmanuel:

actually, if I press and hold it gives me shutdown/reboot/airplane mode options, but no luck as an end app, sleep button as it did in last stable

  • Virgilio:

Even though I’ve been using a cyanogen ROM for a while, I have a beginner’s question: I’ve been using overclock widget in conjunction with this ROM. Is that overkill? Is this ROM already overclocking by default?

  • After one hour of having the phone on and barely using it all (no calls, little data usage, task manager ending running apps), my battery is down 14%. I’m going to have to revert to the stable build to have a phone lasting for a whole day.

  • Vitamin D:

@Shane: I’ve also noticed that the phone is taking a lot longer to charge…it’s been on the charger for 3 hours now and it’s only at 91%…

  • tw3k:

So far so good. From a fresh install I used the cm-updater for 4.1.6, barely had time to play with that before 4.1.7 this morning. Worked well throughout the day at my normal pace. Only thing that didn’t work was vid and camera was just fine. I was killing off apps throughout the day. Kinda like closing out all you windows on a desktop machine. Towards the end of the day I did crash it killing apps and playing with wifi. Battery hasn’t quite died yet but i’ve plugged it in.

  • DancingWombat:

Installed 4.1.7, after 4.0.4 couldn’t connect to T-mobile’s APNs for me, most things seem pretty great now. However, the Email app crashes out every time I try to run it. Browser, gmail, most everything else is healthy, though.

  • tw3k:

Not sure how much is handy but here is the top of the log around the crash:

  • Ben:

I pushed the two updated files onto my G2 running 4.1.7 from the following link and immediately after a reboot it appears more responsive and stable…

    Cheers

    Ben

  • Uxorious:

Update went smooth (except booting took foreeeeeeeeeeever).

    FC from Facebook’s app.

  • Stef:

Caused an overnight crash on my G1

  • jmls:

updated to 4.1.7, had some problems (rebooting / freezing). Have updated the two .so files, will report back

  • Michael Adick:

    here’s what happened to me.
after installing 4.1.7 and Enoch.X 1.3.2 for 4.1.7 everything worked fine (no wipe, no particular force closes, no problem with the battery).
after a few hours, i tried to start an app (sorry don’t know which one) and the screen froze, and the phone automatically rebooted. started up. seemed to have no major issues. then i tried to look through the market, market reported server error, after 2 retries force closes. looked in SD card with file explorer, found only 2 folders (beyondpod & steel), all others gone, closed file explore, error in task bar “SD card damaged”, took SD card out, placed back in, error SD card blank”, tried to mount to PC and format, format didn’t work…
now i am formatting the SD card with an external card reader, seemed to work.
will go through the entire process of partitioning and upgrading to ext3 or 4 again.
    keep you posted

  • Michael Adick:

    story continued
formatted sd card, partitioned, upgrade to ext4
after reboot, can’t access SD card in android, but can in external card reader.
trying wipe and reinstalling 4.1.7 (w/o EnochX 1.3.2 this time).

  • jb:

i still cant get the htc keyboard to come up, theres not a check box for android keyboard, just settings. ans i have touch input checked

  • Rickowsky:

    Just… amazing.
