CyanogenMod-4.2.10!

I spent a lot of time backporting bits from Eclair, including Webkit and the new Browser. No multitouch support yet (pinch zoom), but I’ve also backported the “official” MT API so we can code these things. Lots of other changes as well. Get it with CM updater and check the XDA thread for full changelog!

    @37

I like your idea and suport it.

  2. #2 by zmesler on December 26, 2009 - 7:45 pm

i might be wrong but are your google problems related to GooglePartnerSetup? i think i had a constant fc on this doing a clean install. That is why i updated my apdate this time. Is this useful?

    @#37 by Yuval on December 26, 2009

    100% Great Idea.
Not trying to be a jack A$$ or anything but he is right, your recent Updates, Although they make my G1 “Look” like it would be better then any other android devices. Also makes is unusable. At least Version .10.1 is. As I posted above, By this Morning I have to wait over 15seconds for my Home screen to load, and another 5 seconds for anything else to respond to me But Right now .9 is looking like the Champ, even tho is was a little buggy also, As you stated you fixed “* Services bugs fixed”.

I hope you Make a stable Rom without all the cool features added. Hell your ROM already makes the G1/Other Devices better then the Other Non-Cyanogen devices.

I always get a FC when i go home after using an app, fix please and this update is slower than last update

  5. #5 by pelo88 on December 26, 2009 - 10:41 pm

First of all, thanks for injecting speed into my phone but I think it’s addicted now and am afraid of withdrawal should it get worse with v4.2.11
Secondly, if receiving a call while browsing, it takes so long for it to display who’s calling and until it does the green call button doesn’t work, that the call gets missed! Very frustrating. This with apps2sd ext4 and compcache enabled on 2 different g1s.
The delay happens all the time but it’s when browsing that it’s the worst and results in missed calls.

has anybody had the problem where the apps and stuff move on there own and it just looks like your getting hacked? is this a bug that anybody else has caught or is my phone really getting hacked?

  7. #7 by Broke on December 26, 2009 - 11:49 pm

I have no problems with the new release as of yet. I think its great so far.

In other news, does anyone know why the IM app was removed? Its not going to kill me or anything. I just liked having options. Thanks!

  8. #8 by kris on December 26, 2009 - 11:55 pm

@broke the im app was removed because cyanogen asked the people if anyone uses it .. people dont really use it because they have ebuddy and and stuff like that … he deleted it because it takes up some space .. I think he said he was able to get like 10 megs by deleting it

  9. #9 by C. Chu on December 27, 2009 - 12:30 am

I am having the same issue as #31 – SMS Popup opens the previous thread I visited rather than the thread of the person who just texted me. Other than that, great release.

  10. #10 by moletto on December 27, 2009 - 12:38 am

rom is faster but I always get a FC when try to launch the market app. wadda

  12. #12 by Dar Devy on December 27, 2009 - 1:45 am

    Hello,

Does anyone know how to uninstall an application that is not active? My t-mobile visual voicemail app is installed but is not active. When I searched for it in the market, it shows that it is installed but the “open” and “uninstall” buttons are not clickable. This is the only issue I have with this rom so far. Thanks,

  13. #13 by Peter on December 27, 2009 - 1:56 am

hey, thanks for the super rom, i have to say that the updates are great but ever since the last two updates the phone forcecloses on certain apps.

  14. #14 by anthony phiri on December 27, 2009 - 2:16 am

nice rom, i would like the music to change though but so far so good:)

  15. #15 by Jerome Haltom on December 27, 2009 - 3:19 am

I used the IM app. Is it available anywhere else?

  16. #16 by tom p on December 27, 2009 - 3:26 am

i’ve noticed that of all the bug issues i’ve seen reported, not just with 4.2.10.1, but with other releases as well, a huge percentage of them are with the G1 phones

in my opinion, its time to retire the G1 and step up to one of the newer models that have twice the ROM space and way more RAM if you want to use these mods

my phone’s not the most powerful one out there (the mytouch3g) but i never have had all these issues everyone seems to be having with the g1

    coincidence? perhaps, but….hmmm

  17. #17 by h2u on December 27, 2009 - 3:39 am

    tom p,

Show me another Android handset that offers a touch screen AND a tactile keyboard and your suggestion that the G1 be “retired” might be entertained.

Anecdotally, my Android Developer Phone 1 is operating quite nicely using CM 4.2.10.1. I have no plans to upgrade my hardware until an alternative arrives sporting both a tactile keyboard, a touch screen and support for the AT&T 3G network.

  18. #18 by tom p on December 27, 2009 - 3:46 am

right after i posted i thought, hmm, i bet i just angered a bunch of people….whoops, sorry!

i gotta tell ya, after being forced to deal with the touchscreen keyboard, i have gotten used to it and dont miss the physical keyboard anymore

i cant wait for the 1Ghz snapdragon processor phones (HTC passion) should be awesome

  19. #19 by PlanetxBob on December 27, 2009 - 3:59 am

Well I did a wipe > Base Rom > 4.2.10.1 and my G1 is flying again, I upgraded to ext4 from ext3 and Im not noticing any bogging down like I was… The only time I notice lag is when my phone is looking for my wireless in my house like when it comes out of sleep and wifi is on, but other than that its smooth… The music bug I was experiencing is still there:

when I have the headphone jack plugged in, and listening to music and receive a text, the music stops playing but the notification icon stays up there, I can pause, play, remove headphones and put them back but the only way to be able to play music again is after restarting. Also after this happens I can only adjust the media volume with the side buttons until I restart regardless of if the music icon is in the notification bar or not… definately would like to see this fixed because I used my phone in my car all the time…

Also like someone else mentioned there is quite a long delay for call ID to come up when receiving a call…

Other than that there is no other lag switching between apps and going back to home screen, menu transitions all that is fin, and I am running a G1 so #10 i think ur theory is busted on that, I think the fact is that there is a bigger number of people with the G1 on here so your gunna see more problems around the G1

  20. #20 by Leo on December 27, 2009 - 4:32 am

Thank you. Works brilliantly. Using it since yesterday.

  21. #21 by kabbie_mcfeely on December 27, 2009 - 4:59 am

@TOM about retiring the G1 —- Have put my rooted G1 up against, rooted/ unrooted Touch’s, Eris, Heros and Droids. None of them have been able to keep up. My G1 has been faster, smoother and just easier to use than any other Android deice I have been able to use.

By the way I havent had any trouble since I change from JFroms to Cyanogen. There have been some minor gliches, but thoose are easy to fix.

The G1 will live forever or at least till the Nexous One comes out. HAHAHA.

  22. #22 by Ryan Gray on December 27, 2009 - 5:51 am

I with kabbie_mcfeely on that one… My g1 rock never have had any problems with JF or CM roms. nothing worth changen to till maybe nexous? I love my keyboard… will all but the damn space bar that likes to not work sometimes? is there a fix for that?

  23. #23 by GCONCEPTS on December 27, 2009 - 6:16 am

After upgrading to .10, phone takes forever to boot up. Did a clean wipe and reinstalled several times and phone still takes long to boot up. GOing back to .9. BTW, does VPN work in .10?

    Thanks

  24. #24 by kris on December 27, 2009 - 6:41 am

@tomp cyanogen specializes in making roms for the G1 and MT3G you cant really retire em..

  25. #25 by tom p on December 27, 2009 - 7:52 am

wow, i really pushed a button there, didnt i?

    ok, i stand corrected

  26. #26 by kris on December 27, 2009 - 8:16 am

but seriously why does my phone do that shit at times?? am i really getting hacked or ???

  27. #27 by Ryan Gray on December 27, 2009 - 10:02 am

for those running the g1 and having problems… Use recovery RA-dream-v1.2.3…… than covert ext2 to ext3 with out wipe it will take some time to fix the files than install the new 4.2.10.1 update and you will have the fast phone that some of us have! I also run the overclock wdiget to save bat when screen is off.. and have a task killer.. I have over a 100 apps my bat last all day with me on facebook all the time.. hope this helps anyone that is haveing problems and gets your g1 back to the top..

  28. #28 by Broke on December 27, 2009 - 10:25 am

Thank you kris for answering my question.

As for the person in charge, I too am getting the Force Close Acore message after each restart. Thought it was a fluke til I experienced it upon each restart.

I’m sticking with this rom since it only happens at restart and is fine after force close takes place. Not worth the effort of removal as everything else still seems to be working. I don’t use any widgets besides clock and I have very few apps installed. Thanks again for the excellent work.

  29. #29 by kris on December 27, 2009 - 11:03 am

Upgraded my HTC Dream to 4.2.10. After upgrade the phone was acting way too slow. I had to reboot it, but even after reboot the widgest were running weirdly. No Market available – FC on start. Sadly, I am downgrading it to 4.2.9 version… :(

Can someone give a link how to check what extX is my SD card using now?

  31. #31 by kris on December 27, 2009 - 12:25 pm

@andy .. did your phone just start doing s*** on its own and barely letting you control it?

  32. #32 by Andy on December 27, 2009 - 12:25 pm

    @Ryan Gray

Could you please provide more details?

    cheers

  33. #33 by Andy on December 27, 2009 - 12:31 pm

@kris nope, my phone just became very very slow, barely responding to touches

About your problem, I think that it’s a result of some dodgy app that is trying to get control over your phone ;( Try uninstalling all non-ROM apps maybe? That if you can do anything at all..

After a downgrade all works as before..

  34. #34 by kris on December 27, 2009 - 12:36 pm

@andy mine started running really slow to.. I tried downgrading and that didnt help .. some app again i guess?

  35. #35 by Andy on December 27, 2009 - 1:35 pm

    @kris

    that’s difficult to say :(
can you wipe all from the bootloader?

  36. #36 by kris on December 27, 2009 - 1:55 pm

I wipe every time I flash a rom

  37. #37 by Abdi on December 27, 2009 - 2:13 pm

Hi friends, I’ve update my phone and so far I don’t see any problems with this new update, however you will need to format your SD Card before installing this update. Go Ssettings, SD Card & phone Storage, unmount SD Card and then format it, and after that do the update. You may got some problems if you install the update without formatting it.

Also very important note, I will recomend everone to install Taskiller app which makes your G1 or G2 Faster and reliable. Thanks everybody, and big thanks for Cyanogenmod!

  38. #38 by rbgmode on December 27, 2009 - 4:48 pm

Issues are from what I can tell related to some 2.0 stuff not responding fast on the g1 and if u have a ext2 or ext4 part. No issues on mine on ext3 yet the browser is the only thing I can tell a lag on when typing.

  39. #39 by SXRXE on December 27, 2009 - 5:10 pm

I have started to notice a slow down.
Not bad anouth to go back though.

Had some battery draining issues and noticed Amazon Mp3 kept loading. Went into Amazon App and unchecked some “connection” option. No probs since. Battery usage good as new.

  43. #43 by Ryan Gray on December 27, 2009 - 11:51 pm

@Andy Everything I said is in the recovery mode. recovery RA-dream-v1.2.3 is just the version i use im sure there are new ones out but I like that one it works for me… I never wipe my phone when updating. but to people that do, a wipe does not wipe ext2. you have to do a wipe on that by it self? try doing that, I bet that is your problem.

  44. #44 by Dar Devy on December 28, 2009 - 3:59 am

Eclair 2.0 or higher is coming to the g1…

    4.2.11.1 = Fixed my G1 Lag.

Thanks again Man, so far it seems very stable. Upgraded thro CM straight from 10.1 to 11.1, Working great! <3 Multi Touch!

“Eclair 2.0 or higher is coming to the g1…”

Have no Idea if that was a question, but YES it is. So Far Cyanogen is only based on 1.6 with some porting over of the 2.0. Im sure once its officially release and they have all the drivers for the G1, it will be modded by Cyanogen. But right now Cyanogen > 2.0+ (IMO).

  48. #48 by dawnielle on December 28, 2009 - 5:11 am

stuck on android boot screen after 4.2.11 any ideas on how to fix??

  49. #49 by TGB on December 29, 2009 - 1:53 am

Confirmed issue with launching Pandora, switching to any other app, then reverting back to Pandora. Pandora stays running, albeit with a blank screen, no sound, unresponsive controls other than Quit, followed by crash attempting to view Song or Artist info from this screen.
