CyanogenMod-4.2.13

January 13th, 2010

Another build in the “stable” series which should greatly improve stability. The services code should be backwards compatible so apps with persistent services should behave better. All-new multitouch code using the 2.0 API was added. Contacts app updated. Many other bugs fixed!

Get it with CM Updater or check out the XDA Developers thread!

I was excited when I saw a post about when you switch browser windows it will not reload, a feature that I have been waiting for. Tested it: When I open the browser, then a new window, when I return to the original window it closes my browsers and I have to start all over again.

I really need some help. I think I may have done something very bad. I have a tmobile mytouch 3g.
I was trying to update from 4.2.1.9. I was using a darkstar theme from ringer nation.
Ok here’s where I think i screwed myself. I am fairly new to all this stuff so I was trying to find a guide on how to update the mod and instead of doing it properly by adding the files to the sd card and doing a wipe and then installing everything. I instead messed up and did an install of sapping.nbh and basically followed all the directions to originally root the phone. Including formatting the sd card and everything. When I realized that i was doing this all wrong I was still able to load my os and everything seemed ok. I was getting a sd card error that said that the card was blank or had an unsupported file system. I erased everything off the card and then put the cyanogen uptate and the drc83_base file and attempted to load into recovery and do the update.
I loaded into recovery and did a wipe. Then I attempted to follow the instructions on upgrading from the cyogen wiki page. (God I wish I had found that page first) But after I did the wipe and I attempt to Apply any zip from SD I get “error: sd card is not mounted”
When I attempt to reboot the phone it goes to the tmobile mytouch logo, THEN it goes to my them logo from Ringer Nation, then it just goes to a black screen I let it sit there for like 5 minutes to see what would happen, but nothing. So I took out the battery and sim. I can get into recovery though so I hope that someone can help me figure out where to go from here.
I thought that since I had done a wipe that the theme would have been deleted as well. This is weird.

I did do a nandroid backup before. Hopefully that will prove to be helpful. Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to dump as much useful information about this problem so that hopefully someone will be able to help!
As I am desperate for help, please reach out to me via aim – icolinirie or via gmail – [email protected]
Thank you in advance for everything. This is a great community and all of Cyanogen’s work is greatly appreciated!!

i’ve only been running cyanogen for a few weeks now so i really am kind of a newb here. i have not had any issues in the few weeks that i have been running the mod on my g1. currently running 4.2.13 with no problems either. my only question is about wiping before an upgrade….some say this should be done before every update to the next rom, i have not done this at all as of yet. i install all my updates ots with cyanogens updater. my question is…should be wiping before installing the next update or is this being done automatically when the updater downloads and reboots my phone to install??

  • GustavoJ

Guys for all of you having sluggish problems, errors, bugs, whatever, I’ve finally fixed ALL my phone issues for good. My phone is fast as shit right now and I’m not even using swap, compcache or the 10MB memhack. The issue seemed to be the Base ROM I was using. I was using a base rom called “HTC_ADP_1.6_DRC83_rooted_base.zip” but I wiped my phone/dalvik/ext/rotation settings using amanra1.5.2G recovery, upgraded ext2 to ext4, repaired ext, repartitioned my SD (not necessary I think, do what you will), and rebooted using “DRC83_base_defanged.zip” as base ROM and CM4.2.13 ROM. Restored apps/data with MyBackupPro and everything is running SMOOTH.

Here is the DL link for the base ROM: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Upgrading_From_Older_CyanogenMod_or_other_rooted_ROMs

Hopefully this helps others out there with the same issues I had.

  • Hmm

Why don’t these ever show up in CM updater? You say that they do, but they don’t. “No CM updates found”

  • jim

make sure you have the latest cm updater installed. i beleive cyanogen fixed the issue in the latest updater so that the newest rom shows up first.

  • Kenny

The phone runs ok but it will occasionally FC every app I run. Starting over with a clean install…I hope it fixes the problems I have been having.

  • daniel

VERY FINE UPDATE THOUGH THE CALENDAR WIDGET DOESNT WORK PROPERLY. IT DOESNT UPDATE THE DAY. BUT STILL – NICE WORK!

Using GPS resetted my phone and tried to redial from the contact list and crashed. Rebooted my phone again and well…another crash. Restored from backup and all is well. All I ask is for this mod to have the eclair gmail client PLEASE! That way we can have multiple gmail accounts and not just one. Keep it up homie G

I am having an issue with this release.. While I love the new layout of the calculator, I hate to have such high delay.. If I press the menu button, the menu becomes available after one second. If I open the contacts, it costs me around 3 or 4 seconds and this is with having the pictures disabled.. It seems to me like the 4.2.10 release was better in terms of responsiveness.

Anyway, I believe that these issues are going to be fixed very soon, so keep up the good work, Steve. We believe in you :)

I am experiencing a lot more lag with this version, though I only had 4.2.12.2 for a day or two so its possible the laggy processes were introduced earlier.
Example: when I un-screenlock my phone (menu key) the last home page screen is visible, but any attempt to access an application or change screens is met with 5-10 seconds of lag.

I am on a G2 Google Ion and I’ve installed about a dozen apps, none of which are running during the lagging… unless they are being initiated on startup – if anyone knows how to manage start-up applications, I’d love to have that information. Right now I’m using Astro’s process manager to shutdown annoying processes for apps that run in the background after I leave them, but I’m pretty sure it’s not comprehensive because the alarm clock never appears there and I’ve heard it’s included in startup. I’d also like to get rid of the auto-startup of Google Talk Service, since it’s running half a MB of memory all the time and I never use google’s chat on my phone, and for some reason I have two instances of the Dialer service running in the background even when I’m not dialing anything.

So, ya, any good startup managers out there?

  • Jim

@Rich theres an app called Autostart that i love its like .99 i think it shows up all events and what events start an app and u can also disable that. Use caution though if u uninstall the app without reenabling those events you loose the ability to renable them and have to reinstall the app. Re-Enabling is there however you have to do it through the app and you cant install & reinstall the app and do it either.

Also the 4.2.13 is laggy for me as well im thinking about pushing the original contacts apk back onto the phone the one that comes with it is slow and feel like that may be causing alot of my issues!

    Good Luck

  • http://myriadicity.net klm

i’ve been having problems with email sync becoming very slow after my phone is up for a while – often notifying me of new email hours after the email has arrived. this has been happening on recent versions – 4.2.11.1 and 4.2.13, and maybe also 4.2.9.1 – and i did a wipe before the 4.2.13 install, hoping that would remedy the problem. alas, it hasn’t.

this is all on a T-mobile G1 which i’ve had for about a year now.

i’ve been trying to wait this out, hoping that the problem would be incidentally settled in one of the upgrades, or installing after a wipe would do it, but no such luck. email is one of the most important uses of the phone for me, and not being notified about new emails near to when they arrive is a problem!

i’ve tried a bit of testing, sending emails to myself, and the notifications happen within 30 seconds to a few minutes for a while, but eventually drop off to very lengthy delays in no pattern i recognize. once the delays start happening i have to reboot to get back to prompt notifications.

in case it’s relevant, i also notice that autolock hardly ever works right on the recent builds – more often than not it fails to prevent locking within the selected unlocked period. while frustrating, autolock is not a critical function like email.

to be clear, these are just about the only problems i’ve noticed with 4.2.13. i’m incredibly thankful to cyanogen, jf before him, and everyone helping to make cyanogenmod work – my G1 had become virtually unusable with the stock T-mobile version! i imagine that i’m not the only one experiencing the email notification delays, and hoping that those working on the integration can pay some attention to this problem.

Really need to fix Pandora evry time I go home it just stops I’ve downgraded to 4.2.5 because I like to type H.W and listen to music please fix the Pandora bug.

    Nice roms Cyanogen Thanks.

  • aaron

    @ ibrahim c
try uninstalling and reinstalling. otherwise, email the developer. it’s not a bug on cyanogen’s part, it’s an incompatibility issue.

  • Lester

To everyone that has a problem with the ROM,
Please read other comments, check the bug report at http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/list?can=2&q=&sort=-id&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Priority%20Version%20Owner%20Summary%20Stars%20Modified, and check XDA, everyone else runs these ROM’s without error except for a few, keep the errors to another site, these comments should be for thanking Cyanogen for his great ROM’s, not for what your latest problem is… If its too much trouble to look around for a proper fix unroot and go back to stock! On another note, thanks for all the great work and commitment Cyanogen, excellent work! Also everyone go buy a shirt to support your favorite Android hacker! http://br.st/6DB

    Hi,

I am wondering if there is a way to know if HSDPA is enabled. My plan with WOW Mobile includes unlimited data w/no cap and they allow wireless tethering so I want the HSDPA speeds.

    Thanx

Does anyone experience gmail sync problems, it’s like there is nu push mail anymore on my phone

  • Andrew Ward

I did the whole changing of the base to to the defrangled version. It seems to have fixed all of the lag issues that I was having.

  • Radu

Dig this: upgraded from .11 to .13. The call volume heard by the people I call has decreased by 30%.
Got back to .11 and the volume is OK.

    Any thoughts C man?

    Regards,
    Radu.

  • JPISTOLA

ALRIGHT IVE BEEN RUNNIN CYAN 4.2.13 SINCE THE FIRST DAY THE ROM HAS DROPPED. EVERYTHING IS BLAZIN FAST FOR ME. PROB. THE SMOOTHEST ROM SO FAR. I FIXED THE CONTACT LONG PRESS ISSUE BY INSTALLING ENOCH THEME… THANX ENOCH KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. THE ONLY THING THAT KINDA SUX BOUT THIS ROM IS THAT MY BATTERY LIFE IS NOT AS GOOD AS BEFORE WITH 4.2.11. ITS NOT HORRIBLE. BUT IT WAS BETTER BEFORE. GOOD THING I HAVE THE EXTENDED BATT. 1400MAH
    OTHER THEN THAT ITS GREAT

  • DancingWombat

@marco77 – Did you upgrade without wiping? Sometimes that screws up syncing with google. Go to Settings->Applications, find Android Apps, and clear its data. You’ll then have to log back into the phone like you did the first time, and it will resync, but that usually fixes those problems quickly and easily.

  • marco77

@DancingWombat i indeed upgraded for the first time without wiping, clearing the android apps didn’t do it for me… i guess the next thing to do is do a fresh upgrade. Another question, can i somehow backup all of my setting so that when i do a wipe and upgrade i can restore all my previous settings in a view clicks?

  • Bob Reid

MT3G stuck on 4.2.11.1 – every attempt to install 4.2.12.2 and 4.2.13 has resulted in reset home screen and broken google services. After multiple methods I am basically tired of trying. Anyone have any insight here? Much thanks…

  • Cameron

Hi all! I currently have a G1 on T-mobile (with data plan and all).
I have to root it, but am going to in the next few days. My issue is this: on the G1 with receiving Picture messages (currently, just talked to a t-mobile rep) you must have something in the subject and body of the MMS in order to receive it. If a MMS you are receiving doesn’t have this, then you don’t get it at all.
Does this still occur with cyanogen rom? or is this just a t-mobile/g1 issue? has this happened to anyone else?
I just want to receive mms without a subject or body.
Thank you all for your time!

  • angelo

for people who are having problem with phone being slow and home screen issues what i did was go to spare parts and go down to home in memory and check it

SOLVED, IF YOU ARE STUCK IN THE FOUR COLOR SCREEN OR YOU HAVE THE DRC83 ROOM, OR IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO, READ THIS.
How I promise yesterday, i do what i say, i found how to fix the trouble with the drc83 when you downgrade to the rc29 and you install an old room, and when you cant entry to the cellphone without 3g and wifi, the SOLUTION IS THIS: you have to download one file named Downgrade_files_RC30.zip, and follow the instructions, the file has the next files: Hard_SPL_update.zip, update.zip (or the room that you want to install and renamed to update.zip), the file named DREAIMG.nbh (or rc 29 or rc7 depending on your cellphone), and recovery test keys.img

All that you need to do, is to copy all this files to the sd card, press cam+back,or power+back, when you do tat appears a four color screen, you just have to wait to the cellphone and follow the instructions, finally press the center, and power+menu+green botton (or call botton)
after that you have to push home+power botton (red botton), and after open the cellphone and press alt+l when you see the screen with the symbol !, after you have to press alt+w, and alt+s, in order to install the update, zip, when you finish, let the cellphone initiate everything, and when appear the initial screen, it doesnt matter that you unblock or not your cellphone (i mean doesnt matter if you cant create or enter to the google count or use anything), press twice enter, dont worry if you see contacts, or your screen says its non a emergency call, after that you have to write cd sdcard, sh install, your phone should reboot by itself switch off the phone and then hold down the home key while you switch it on again. Keep the home key held down until you see the recovery screen (with the “!” triangle and the picture of the phone). Then press Alt+L on the keyboard and if you see “Using test keys” on the second line of text then the modified recovery image is installed and you can now install a modified firmware by hitting Alt-S

To install the modified bootloader rename Hard_SPL_update.zip to update.zip and switch the phone off and then hold down the home key while you switch it on again. Keep the home key held down until you see the until the new recovery menu, hit Alt-S to apply the new bootloader.

When you finish to do that, you just have to download any room that you want and rename for update.zip, like in the last point, and you will be able to install it, if you dont know which room do you want, find this file CyanoNV4.3.zip , and rename to update.zip, copy this file to your sd card, press back+home, open your phone, press alt + L, press alt+w, press alt+s, wait and finally enjoy

By the way if you dont know how to install another recovery image, you just have to install the sdk tools from the oficial page, and use the sbd tool, restart your phone, and press again menu+back, and in your computer open ms dos, o press cmd, find the folder of the file named adb in msdos, and write adb shell while you are in the recovery screen, and after you have to write
$su (not required if you have root already), enter
    #mount -a , enter
#flash_image recovery /sdcard/exact name of your file with all the symbols.img

note: if you write su, and mount, and doesnt happen anything, dont worry write the last code #flash_image recovery /sdcard/exact name of your file with all the symbols.img, after #reboot, and thats all

FINALLY A MESSAGE FOR YOUR NON HELP, YOU SUCK,sorry for this but i believe that the people of this page should help to others. and again sorry by my english, i hope that you can understand at least how to fix your cellphone, and if you have any dubt, my mail again is:

    [email protected]

BYE, AND THANKS FOR YOUR NON HELP

something’s broken with this ROM. it’s now 11:20am and I’ve charged my phone until 8:30am. Still, only 65% of the battery left. this was not an issue with earlier ROMs.

  • quilty

Thanks so much for your continued work on bringing us these choice roms. One question: when I click on home back, instead of getting the standard recovery console, I get something with the words “hboot” and “dreamv” and with one option: “clearstorage.” How do I get back the normal recovery console? This change only occurred upon doing a factory wipe after having upgraded the rom. Thanks again!

4.2.13 was getting kind of chunky in performance so I did a wipe and ever since, I’ve been getting force close messages with market (com.google.process.gapps) and have been unable to install any apps. I then rolled back to 4.2.12 after having wiped and have been getting force closes for a different file com.google.android.partnership, which I can’t help but link it to the reason why I can’t access market in this rom as well.

  • Xster

Just upgraded. However, show processes in dev tools put os in a infinite reboot loop

ALRIGHT I LEFT A COMMENT YESTERDAY ABOUT THE THIS ROM HAVING A SUCKY BATTERY LIFE. A FRIEND OF MINE WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. HE NOTICED THIS WHEN HE INSTALLED THE AUTOMATIC TASK KILLER. WHICH I ALSO HAD INSTALLED ON MY PHONE, WELL…. AFTER REMOVING THE AUTO TASK KILLER MY BATT. LIFE HAS IMPROVED. SOUND CRAZY THAT A APP THAT IS SUPPOSE TO SAVE U BATTERY, WAS ACTUALLY KILLING BATTERY. IVE HAD MY PHONE UNPLUGGED FOR THE CHARGER SINCE 7 THIS MORNING, ITS NOW 6:30 AND IS STILL HAVE 61% BATTERY. IDK. HELPED ME, JUST PUTTING IT OUT THERE TO HELP OTHERS
