CyanogenMod-4.2.13
Another build in the “stable” series which should greatly improve stability. The services code should be backwards compatible so apps with persistent services should behave better. All-new multitouch code using the 2.0 API was added. Contacts app updated. Many other bugs fixed!
Get it with CM Updater or check out the XDA Developers thread!

#47 … all u gotta do is go to console and fix_permissions … with me i m stuck at the point where i pused the latest contatcs 2.8 into the phone but noe i cant place any calls… just geta force close message
#50 (Zeshan)
I’ve tried to fix permissions in both the console and the terminal emulator to no avail. In fact, when I tried to do it in 4.2.12, I would get a message about how some file doesn’t exist.
I have the G1v1, the rom works almost perfect for me. Thank you very much for the hard work.
To combat the lag and battery drain, I use a widget called Overclock. It pseudo slows the cpu cycles at different times like when the screen is off. When the screen turns on, the cpu tries to emulate 528 mhz. With the seidio 2600mah battery I can go a week without recharging if only using it as a phone or approx 6 hrs of wireless tether.
Thanks Again!
Great roms, but for some reason SMS Popup doesn’t switch conversations when choosing reply to a popup text. It used to, but I don’t know if its due to the program or rom.
SOLVED, IF YOU ARE STUCK IN THE FOUR COLOR SCREEN OR YOU HAVE THE DRC83 ROOM, OR IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO, READ THIS.
How I promise yesterday, this is the answer, i found how to fix the trouble with the drc83 when you downgrade to the rc29 and you install an old room, and when you cant entry to the cellphone without 3g and wifi, the SOLUTION IS THIS: you have to download one file named Downgrade_files_RC30.zip, and follow the instructions, the file has the next files: Hard_SPL_update.zip, update.zip (or the room that you want to install and renamed to update.zip), the file named DREAIMG.nbh (or rc 29 or rc7 depending on your cellphone), and recovery test keys.img
All that you need to do, is to copy all this files to the sd card, press cam+back,or power+back, when you do tat appears a four color screen, you just have to wait to the cellphone and follow the instructions, finally press the center, and power+menu+green botton (or call botton)
after that you have to push home+power botton (red botton), and after open the cellphone and press alt+l when you see the screen with the symbol !, after you have to press alt+w, and alt+s, in order to install the update, zip, when you finish, let the cellphone initiate everything, and when appear the initial screen, it doesnt matter that you unblock or not your cellphone (i mean doesnt matter if you cant create or enter to the google count or use anything), press twice enter, dont worry if you see contacts, or your screen says its non a emergency call, after that you have to write cd sdcard, press enter, sh install, press enter, your phone should reboot by itself switch off the phone and then hold down the home key while you switch it on again. Keep the home key held down until you see the recovery screen (with the “!” triangle and the picture of the phone). Then press Alt+L on the keyboard and if you see “Using test keys” on the second line of text then the modified recovery image is installed and you can now install a modified firmware by hitting Alt-S
To install the modified bootloader rename Hard_SPL_update.zip to update.zip and switch the phone off and then hold down the home key while you switch it on again. Keep the home key held down until you see the until the new recovery menu, hit Alt-S to apply the new bootloader.
When you finish to do that, you just have to download any room that you want and rename for update.zip, like in the last point, and you will be able to install it, if you dont know which room do you want, find this file CyanoNV4.3.zip , and rename to update.zip, copy this file to your sd card, press back+home, open your phone, press alt + L, press alt+w, press alt+s, wait and finally enjoy
By the way if you dont know how to install another recovery image, you just have to install the sdk tools from the oficial page, and use the sbd tool, restart your phone, and press again menu+back, and in your computer open ms dos, o press cmd, find the folder of the file named adb in msdos, and write adb shell while you are in the recovery screen, and after you have to write
$su (not required if you have root already), enter
#mount -a , enter
#flash_image recovery /sdcard/exact name of your file with all the symbols.img
note: if you write su, and mount, and doesnt happen anything, dont worry write the last code #flash_image recovery /sdcard/exact name of your file with all the symbols.img, after #reboot, and thats all
FINALLY A MESSAGE FOR you, sorry for this but i believe that the people of this page should help to others. and again sorry by my english, i hope that you can understand at least how to fix your cellphone, and if you have any dubt, my mail again is:

BYE, AND THANKS FOR YOUR NON HELP CYANOGENMOD USERS
Greatest ROM yet. Everything seems to be in working order (no more issues with instant close). The thing I love most about cyanogenmod are the menu tweaks!
Hi all. Still running 4.2.12.2, cm updater doesn’t offer me 13. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Worse Mod Ever.
Every Mod up to this point has been fine. I was forced to downgrade to an earlier downgrade for the first time when I started using this. Here are my list of issues:
Dialer: Extremely slow. Ridiculously slow when trying to make a call.
Stability: Very unstable.
Numberous other issues. Yes I know I can do a hard reset and wipe out everything..the point is no-one wants to reinstall 200+ applications whenever they install a new mod. We need a mod that we can use that will work perfectly without doing a wipe
anybody having issues with the Work Email application? My logs are showing this after upgrading to 4.1.13, was working in 4.2.12.1
01-19 11:05:19.824 I/ActivityThread( 2997): Publishing provider mail: com.htc.android.mail.MailProvider

Oops, typo! 4.2.13 is obviously what i meant to type!
I had to switch back to 12.2 due to the Icons not loading or taking forever to load when returning to the home screen. Lots of home screen issues >> home wanted to force close all the time. Any thoughts as I did like it while it lasted anyway. I don’t mean to complain just wondering if I did anything wrong.
Ethan did you get any help, my G1 is doing the same thing. I hate to wait to make a phone call it’s a for phone for petes sake!!!
Oopse sorry Ethan. I just realized the name is on top of who wrote it so my question is to Troy F.
OMG I’M DOWNGRADING!!!!!!!!!! Didnt think i would ever do this but too many problems…..
mmmhhh … one step forward and one step back.
This rom sometime hangs on my phone. I got many times the message “the application phone is not responding”.
Furthermore, it seems that multi touch is not working anymore with the default browser, but it works with Dolphin browser.
if I press the key to exit from the phone, or from the contacts it’s stuck forever.
I am thinking to downgrade…. the phone is almost unasable.
For me this release really increased stability. With 4-5 previous releases I had many problems with the desktop, it crashed very often. It’s still laggy sometimes, when returning to destop after closing apps, but it is really more stable.
I enjoy this rom and encourage Cyanogen a lot with his work, continue this way.
Totally loving 4.2.13! My Dream is running the fastest and most stable it’s ever been. The memory management seems to work extremely well and don’t even have to run swap with this version.
@Dane
Download ConnectBot
Login as local.
In the command line type
cd sdcard
wget http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/update-cm-4.2.13-signed.zip
Easy as pie.
@Troy F..try My Backup Pro. It costs about $5 but will save you hours when you need to do a full wipe. I have about 160 apps and it only takes a few mins and does all the work for you.
@MainMast..thanks for the battery tip
Can I apply the contacts.apk with apps installer or do I have to do it from terminal?
My homescreen and application list (in the lower drawer) are often slow to refresh, especially after closing the browser or fullscreen games. Is there anything I can do to remedy this, or is this a normal behavior?
I tried dealing with the hangups of the latest ROMs but I couldn’t any longer. I decided to go back to the stock ROM. Everything is working fine but I do miss a few of the improvements Steve made.
I’ll give Steve’s ROM another shot when it’s based on 2.0 and not 1.6.
This was the first ROM that I had significant problems with. Dialer was basically non-functional, and everything was unbearably slow. However, after a wipe and a fresh install it has been great.
Thanks for your work!
@ Craig,
I curious, when you say a wipe and fresh install can explain in greater detail what you did?
Thnx peope!
@Craig,
.
Second attempt
I am curious, when you say “a wipe and fresh install” can you explain in greater detail what you did?
Thnx People!
@Blackmantis
I think it’s pretty obvious what craig is saying here.
He had problems when he updated from cyanogenmod 4.2.12.2 so he just wiped everything and installed cyanogenmod like the first time but at it’s latest version (4.2.13).
@Mike
I’d better suggest that you followed Cyanogen’s recommendations and just pushed ‘Contacts.apk’ to ‘/system/app’ by means of terminal or ADB utility (the file system should be remounted for WRITE, of course) rather than upgraded with apps installer.
I did that in ADB after 4.2.12.2=>4.2.13 upgrade
Perhaps, this may appear somewhat helpful to some of those having ‘force close’ exceptions after each upgrade. Having applied a new CM OS update, I usually avoid rebooting but in CM recovery console run ‘fix_permissions’ and then reboot (they say, better safe than sorry).
I can never recollect any severe ‘force closes’ of my favourite applications, having followed this rule since 4.0.x.
I’m not sure whether the approach will work for those whose apps are deployed on SD card (may fixing the FS command help?)
IM having the problem that I cant make any calls! Does any1 know a fix for this.I had installed the contacts.apk through package installer and since I had the problem I tried through terminal and I still have the problem.I think it might be an app because after I did a wipe it worked for a while and I thought it was fixed but when I went 2 call again the acore error.
everything working fine. however a littele bit laggy when returning to home screen. (HTC Magic)
I’m a little bit nervous about installing the contacts.apk as the last time I did it, I used app installer and I got the “cant make a call” problem. I rolled the rom back and started over. So I’m back to .13 but havent installed the contacts.apk again.
I’m really new to all of this and I’m not sure what app I am supposed to use for terminal and I dont know what a ADP utility is. Anyone want to educate me?
Since this update everyone I call complains that I sound very silent! I was on 4.2.9 before and everything was fine.
It’s already been mentioned, but let me echo that the dialer is too slow to use at all.
But, such is the nature of these things. I’ll revert to the previous version until it’s cleared up.
Keep up the great work! Bugs happen, but this work is greatly appreciated!
hey ppl, is it possible to get 2.x+ OS on TMO G1? Will it be released on cyanogenmods in future?
Yes I agree Bugs happen. But you people feed them and they grow. They grow grow….. So what that means. IT MEANS THAT YOU ARE THE ONE WHO CREATES A PROBLEM. It has been said sooooooo many times before that there are hundreds of people who enjoy these roms. They are stable, they are fast they are great. And there is this 1% who say that this doesnt work that doesnt work blah blah blah. Second line on the home page says: PLEASE DOWNLOAD CONTACTS.APK AND PUSH OR YOULL HAVE ISSUES. Now what happens? 100 people one by one spam this forum saying that contacts doesnt work properly and dialer is poor. Yes 99% knows that because they DID ***(READ)*** about it. How many times will you ask what WIPING is? HOW DID YOU INSTALL THIS MOD BTW? there is this great site http://WWW.GOOGLE.COM that can answer for all of your questions. BELIEVE me on this.
PS. A full wipe happens when you go to the toilet.
You must hate me by now

I had to revert back to 4.2.12.2. That release works much better with MY G1. This relese was very unresponsive on my phone. Since I installed both versions exactly the same with full wipe, fix_permissions etc… (with the exception of installing the contacts.apk on the 4.2.13), I will be bold enough to say that it was not user error and that this rom doesn’t want to play nice with my G1. It seems to me like all phones do not appear to be created equal since I’m seeing a mixed bag of responses on all releases. Granted, there are definitely people who just don’t take the time to read like Zmesler mentioned. However, these roms are certainly not perfect. If they were, then each new release wouldn’t have notes about “many bugs fixed” from the previous versions. I’m happy with 4.2.12.2 and i’m looking forward to the next “stable” release that my phone likes.
New Dreaimg.nbh, new Radio 1.6, new ota update to Radio 1.6, new 4.2.13 CM update.
Even ran fix_permissions from Recovery console.
Now, phone constantly reboots at sporadic intervals.
Yeah, Pandora bug is now fixed and works, but if it reboots in the middle of a song, or even just unlocking the phone, then it really doesn’t matter.
I didnt feel comfortable with app2sd idea. I deleted my ext partition. Now i have no issues with fc, reboots, or wrongly mapped shortcuts. CPU is set to 528 max/min + 10 MB mem hack. Rocket. No battery drama at all. It lasts 24 h with heavy usage (including my little 9h bed time)
HI GREAT,
you’re great. just some problems if i can tell: the 4.12.13 is not so stable as some other before this one (i’ve G1 DREAM): sometimes android get closed with no reasons, it drains a lot of battery, and when type DATA on the home widget of connection, it allows data sync and AUTO sync too. it drains too battery in this way.
BUG: ON CALL RECEIVED LIST, if you long press one of the field of the list, android crashes… it’s difficult to save a new number for example.
BUG 2: when using the headphones, start the music player.
however, you’re great, really great, and the rom is quite ok.
In order to solve the issue that causes the contacts application to crash while holding on some contacts off the call list, you have to check the xda forums – there are instructions how to get it fixed.
I’ve f*cked up my G1 using Lock 2.0 application, so I had to factory reset the phone.. After the reset my phone is running faster and some of the problems are just not here. Perhaps some changes were not compatible with the old data before. If someone is having such issue, please consider to sync your phone and do a factory reset.
Steve, thank you for your hard work on this one. It is highly appreciated.
did you push that Contacts.apk using ADB to /system/app/ ? You know the that doesnt crash
Do a fresh install it works. I found updating updated updates a fail. It cumulates issues and creates new ones. 2.13 is well done
For those of you having trouble with this ROM, please hear me out:
I did a complete fresh install, coming from stock T-mobile 1.6. I did the DRC83 Defanged, and then applied the OTA Radio, etc. Fixed permissions in Recovery (before first boot). I had the dreaded “Black Screen of Death” on several ocassions, and random reboots. I had not even installed any apps, or even set any widgets It was horrible, and dare I say, unusable.
I was going to push contacts.apk, but decided to go to Spare Parts, and select “Home app in memory.” I rebooted into Recovery, and fixed the permissions one more time. Rebooted, and it has been running almost perfect for at least 12 hours straight now! I do have the “long-press” issue in contacts, but only in the Call Log. Other than that, I have had no other problems.
I will push the contacts.apk after this post, and see how it goes. I hope this helps some of you.
CM Updater does not show this ROM… and it appears stability might be the reason. Keep up the good work! I would very much like to update soon
@ djgblz : This shows up in CM Updater. Just go the prefs, and then to “Rom Update Settings,” and select “Display all Rom Updates’” and also “Display Experimental Roms.” Also, make sure that you have the latest version installed.
Just wanted to mention – I pushed the Contacts.apk, and I am back to having reboots and black screens. It seems to only happen when I press the “Back” button or sometimes when I press the “Menu” button. I have 4.2.13 working on another G1, and this makes no sense to me.
guys, I really don’t want to fix any issue, and I will NEVER perform full wipe of my phone, or install OTA radio.
Are you crazy or what?
If I want a toy, I will buy a playstation.
I did it once to go from older cyanogen ROM to this new ones and I don’t want to spend my time in this way.
I have a script to fix my keyboard layout and that’s enough for me.
Hey all got 13 installed and its smooth as butter! No probs with my contacts or the battery draing xtra fast. I went from 4.2.9.1 maybe something from the later builds is causing the dialer error. Anyways to spread the good luck and love this is how I have my g1 setup:
Hard SPL
recovery-RA-v1.5.2
Cyanogen 4.2.13
8gb class 6 microSD
-7gb fat32
-1gb ext4
-64mb linux-swap (swappiness=30)
