postheadericon CyanogenMod 4.2.3

This is a fun release. We have USB tethering support (kernel drivers ported by Zinx), Bluetooth OBEX support courtesy of Erin@0xlabs, and some other goodies.

  • Users are warned that v4.2.3 has an issue with ADB not picking up the device.

  • @ReyG:

Am not able to download?? from the main link on XDA or the mirror?

  • mark:

I know this is dumb, but where is the source tree for the ADB fix. Can you add a loink or the file. Thanks!

  • Kenny:

I think I have everything I ever wanted from my phone now…. Thanks so much for your work and the others that made this possible.

  • mark:

Not sure where to ask but what is your favorite beer?

  • William C.:

Literally just flashed Cyan v. 4.2.2, come back and see this. Perfect timing, you guys! Haha.

Flashed this one, looking forward to trying this out!
    I’ve heard great things =)

  • bankwing:

    ADB device not working !!

  • Just blogged about the USB Tethering feature with screen shots! http://blog.mmayhew.com

  • Chris:

    @ bankwing

    check out 4.2.3.1

  • bhang:

The native browser balks At the agree popup on the htc dev site 9 out of 10 times it kills the browser.
I’m running the FAKE ROM and its not the same, it would seem simple to just add the missing app without mucking things up, but i guess not, anybody have a link that i can use on the phone, as that is my only access to the Inet ATM….

  • Scammah:

So the “Asian Development Bank” isn’t working? That’s to bad. jk I didn’t know what ADB meant so I searched it and found that. I know now what it means. Keep up the good work.

  • Dar Devy:

I got an MD5 verification fail when I tried to update via the CyanogenMod Updater. What is wrong?

    Thx

  • issinoho:

Since updating my phone gets stuck at G1 logo and gave to factory reset to boot. If I reboot then same thing happens. Help?

  • Dar Devy:

Oops! Never mind. I got it updated fine now. Just had to reattempt at updating and then somehow it corrected itself. Thx

  • Joel:

Were you running CM-4.1.99 or greater before updating? If not, you’ll want to follow the instructions listed here:

  • Macdaddy:

wow.amazon installed itself again and went i went to delete it this time it says permission denied…..any ideas?

  • Robert:

hey, im a bit of a transparency lover and I was wondering if there was anyway to make the drawer and icon backgrounds transparent. I just finished flashing CM4.2.3. I was previously using the regular OS and bought openhome and was using that as my default home. I was wondering if there was any support for transparent windows and themes in CM4.2.3 the way open home has it. Thanks

  • Robert, feel free to use openhome again with CM.

  • brie987:

    Fuzzy warm super terrific :P

  • robby:

I have the same problem like issinoho since CM 4.2.2.
at first i made a update from 4.1.9999 what didn´t works (g1 boot screen) than i wiped but i still get g1 boot screen, than i trierd a clean install with the wipe > HTC Recovery Image > CM 4.2.2 still g1 boot screen than all again with 4.2.3.1 still g1 boot screen.
Than i installed the Android SDK (i just reinstalled windows this week) and notice that i can use the adb to work on the g1 boot screen.
Than i reformatted my sdcard (to resolve any partitions problems if there any) and reinstalled (wipe > HTC Recovery Image > CM 4.2.3.1) still g1 boot screen.

if it´s helpfull i made 2 logs the first with sdcard und the second without sd and uploadet to RS:

    I´m running a german g1 32B

  • bill:

I think that this release broke compatibility with the overclocking widget. it works in apps but when i go home it force closes.

  • JRiss:

Since updating my Android to the latest mod, the browser no longer loads (always forces close). Is there a solution?

  • JRiss:

Maybe I should have clarified that I was speaking about the internet browser on my T-Mobile Android.

  • nellouk:

flashed latest release everything seem fine apart from blue tooth wont work wont pick up any devices keep up the good work though

  • kLyon:

So in general, the voicedialer is working for everyone, so it isn’t the rom it’s… well, something else that only happens to me? Because it doesn’t do anything over here. Just curious.
    And great work, senor C.

  • JRiss:

Solved: Reinstalled the update, and the browser is now working.

  • asonpar86:

1ST OFF: Cyanogen you make my g1 very cool

2nd OFF: Any support at all for flash player? I saw KiNgxKxROM Sapphire Sense to G1 Port v1.3 rom it said flash player included & working? Will we get flash?

Also this new camera sucks so bad, can we have the previous one with zoom? I looked all over could not find an .apk anywhere.

    Thanks————You Rock!!!

  • Mike:

What is the rom update server for the cmupdater application. also my market doesnt work. i click it and it just loads and loads but i can’t do anything. thanks

  • Spindrifter:

    Good work!

This is swigga-sweet! Love the USB tether and OBEX! The app drawer looks better (but I still don’t like the rounded corners–no offense to anyone). This takes things to a new level.

Anybody working on a T-mobile myFaves solution for 1.6?

  • Josh:

I have just installed the latest CyanogenMod 4.2.3.1 and by the way i love it, but all the stock apps have dissapeared (google mail, maps, market etc) how can i get them back, I didnt have this issue with v4.2.2, is it done on purpose please help thanks.

    Josh

  • Dich:

flashed the 4.2.2 couple of days ago just to find out 4.2.3 and then 4.2.3.1 are out! I wonder how can one backup the installed extra apps and restore after reflashing in one go, instead of installing one by one?

Another problem I got is that now none of the weather widgets is working anymore, did anybody else get such problems?

Thx for the great job otherwise, wifi thethering is cool!

  • Owen:

It updates almost just perfectly fine. On the stat though a couple com.google….gapps force close at start. And I now have no service whatsoever from T-Mobile, lol, tethiering and all works well, just now I have no service.

  • Owen:

And bby tethering working, I mean it connects to the pc, no network so no 3G to try with. I think I went straight from 4.2.2 to 4.2.3.1 via updating. Should I reaply the update I wonder.

  • Kris:

Updated from 4.2.2 to 4.2.3 using the app in the market. My G1′s browser is sometimes getting stuck when I open or close the keyboard.

Just thought someone might want to know. Thanks, in all other regards Cyanogen rocks!!!

  • Lord Jim:

I installed 4.3.2.1 on my G1 (so far I’ve convinced several people to go with a G1 over an iPhone largely because of Cyanogenmod) but when I turn on USB Tethering and plug the USB cable into an XP system I get the Found New Hardware wizard, wanting to install software for “Android Phone”. I already have the ADB driver installed, and if I point the wizard at the driver folder it doesn’t find anything new. Does anyone know what I need to do to get USB tethering to work/

  • IPhone IWing:

Having a low memory prob. I get acore error after every of a theme. I looked at log and it shows the error but I have no idea why it would happen. Would you like my log?

  • Dar Devy:

How do I get the soft-touch keyboard back? Thx

  • Dar Devy:

I got it now. I just had to enable it in Locale&Text.

  • Owen:

Incase anyone was noting, I got my network and all them error messages gone:

I re-installed the update twice, got worse and worse errors, until Android. has ended unexpectedly.
Then I replaced the system with the backup just before I started, and it got, well, worse, couldnt use it once it was on.
AND THEN, I re-installed the update once more, and now its all functioning seemingly well.

As always, major thanks to Cyanogon and the community for all this great work.

  • Dich:

Updated to 4.2.3.1, all works fine, including the weather applets.
    cool job!

  • CyanFan:

Anyone figure out how to get the ADB to work?

I can’t get my Android to tether via USB. Yes I have v4231 installed. Yes I can mount my SD card via USB with no problem.

I would like to get it to work via USB cause it might use less battery life than wireless tethering and might be slightly faster than wireless tether.

I am still trying to install the right drivers on XP. Anyone have a step by step instruction for install on XP. I know its very newb to ask, but it would help many peeps figure out what went wrong.

My XP finds an Android Phone attached , but doesn’t install the right driver so its unsucessful. :/
Ends up as a “yellow ?” In network adapters on device manager.

Is there certain settings on the G1, I should have when trying to install the drivers?

Is there a certain driver set I should download? If so, where?

  • danr238:

Anyone else running into issues with google maps? last couple updates have had issues.

  • evil:

On my G1 32B after upgrade from “Can be ran only on HTC devices”. Second try: “Application is not installed”.
Google maps seems ok (not tested very well).

  • evil:

On my G1 32B after upgrade from (less than)4.1.99 the way suggested by wiki (to 4.2.2 and then to 4.2.3.1):
    1. Touch Input is terminated unexpectedly again and again and again. Solution: turn off Touch Input in Locale & Text.
    2. Calendar not working*
    3. Market is not working*
    * “window” of application disappears immediately after application is started
    4. First run of Teeter – “Can be ran only on HTC devices”. Second try: “Application is not installed”.
Google maps seems ok (not tested very well).

Cannot use signs “less than” and “bigger than” in comments here. I did not know that, sorry.

  • macdaddy:

Hi I’m having a huge problem! My g1 keeps turning off ramdomly. When I play cestos for like 3 mins it just shuts off or I go on the internet for a few mintues it just shuts off.I don’t get any 15 percent low or anything.as I matter a fact I usally have almost 90 percent when it suddenly shuts off.then I can’t turn it back on unless I connect it 2 a charger or take out the battery! And wen it turns on it does say 80 percent.it doesent make sence.please some1 answer me here or my email which is ramirez3805@gmail.com. thanks!

  • macdaddy:

Yo evil just reinstall the update.I was having errors like that 2 where I couldent use the market make calls or texts and I just reinstalled the same rom and wa la! If that doesent work do the recovery and then update…….if any1 knows anything about my problem plz tell me^

  • evil:

Reinstalled already 3 times, still exactly the same problems.
One try with WIPE before update; No problem with Touch Input then, but missing all my data&settings = problem, i am too busy for setting it all again now ;-/
Outgoing + Incomming calls are OK.
There is same warning like “Google Partner” or so after boot, but thw message disappears to fast…

  • Spindrifter:

Those having troubles… fix the permissions.

  • mike:

I don’t know why there are so many people having problem with this update. I read here problems: with ADB (no problem for me), Browser (no problem for me), Market (no problem for me)…

I flashed from 4.1.999 to 4.2 to 4.2.1 to 4.2.2 to 4.2.3.1 without any problems.
I also use Enoch 1.4.2 (Theme) and Advanced Launcher on top of CM ROM

If anyone has a problem. It is NOT the ROM

fix_permissions is always a good first remedy if something goes awry, next step would be to do a “wipe” before flashing, although I haven’t been required to do that since 4.2

    cheers
