CyanogenMod 4.2.3

October 31st, 2009

This is a fun release. We have USB tethering support (kernel drivers ported by Zinx), Bluetooth OBEX support courtesy of Erin@0xlabs, and some other goodies.

But that isent gonna help with my problem

  • Tony

Can receive files from PC to G1 over bluetooth but not able to SEND files TO my PC…what am I doing wrong here? I’m assuming UE (user error)…

  • LoneNachos

Anybody have tips on getting the all new kernel-level tether working on a Mac? I poked around on the internet a bit, but didn’t see anything too promising.

I tried it out on Ubuntu 9.10, and it worked perfectly without hesitation.

  • Lemmy C

I’ve tried tinkering with AJZaurusUSB to get it to recognize my G1 as a modem for tethering to the Mac, but no luck. Now that I know that USB tethering is available, I can’t bring myself to use WiFi tethering… is anyone else working on this?

  • evil

fix_permission did not help me anyway.

  • Taz2781

mmm… I got a problem… whit the new update (CyanogenMod 4.2.3), the bluetooth of my G1 don’t want to connect with the hand-free device… is there a bug or something? I downgraded it to the last version on Cyanogenmod (CyanogenMod-4.2.2)… but still not working… before the CyanogenMod 4.2.3, it was working perfectly.

hi there, want to flash my vodafone magic 32b with the latest cm rom 4.2.3.1 and found this in the wiki:

    http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_MT3G/Magic_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod

One question: ist this guide complete or does the the information for rooting the phone is left out?

  • tufonzy

but the function to uninstall the app from the pulldown menu holding down and dragging the icon to the trash how do I return it? It’s a function of the Advanced launcher?

  • harrison

After 2.0 comes out and & cyanogen gets to working with an amazing & yet hopefully very stable ROM, I hope to see some actual themes to go along with it. 2.0 Might be as far as the t-mobile G1 goes as far as hardware to support upcoming OS updates. It seems like 1.5, 1.6, & 2.0 all came so quickly. I doubt we’ll see another update for a while. So after 2.0 sets in I really do hope to start seeing some really cool themes we can flash that are compatible with Cyanogen Rom’s

  • Britt Irwin

    Hello,

I am trying to perform the “USB wired tethering” option and windows is asking for an Android Device driver. Does anyone know where to obtain or download that?

  • Shawe

I’m having a problem with the latest version. The phone turn off itself without reason in random times. 3 or 4 times occured yet from yesterday.

Any one have the same problem?

  • Kot

Did you see Acer Liquid’s multimedia desktop?! Can we have one? :D

  • choko

    @ Shawe
Yes, I’m having a similar issue. I’m not sure the phone is shutting itself off though, since I can’t push power to turn it back on. I have to remove the battery, then turn the phone on for it to work. I have a g1, and am using 4.2.3

  • macdaddy

I’m having that shutting down problem 2!I’m about to unroot and go back 2 donut and call t mobile!dam that shit is annoying.I have read that putting and paper 2 make it tighter works but not for me.if any1 has a fix for this pleaseeeeeeeeee don’t hesatate to tell me! [email protected]

  • Imi

I am still using the old method to update the new roms, via recovery console, didn’t have an issue, I would really be happy to see Adobe Flash on the browser before Apple gets it :-)

Everything works perfect, nothing is broken on my G1 as of the latest build.

  • Turturis

I too am having the issue with ADB.

I have a MyTouch3G running 4.2.1. Updated through the coonsole as usual. Update went uneventful as usual.

again, as usual, i have to use ADB Shell to run fix_ permissions.

I have been able to run ADB since 4.0.4. Not this time.

I have two phones. one for myself and one for my son. i havent updated his phone yet. I am still able to use ADB on his phone.

it isnt that ADB isnt able to detect the device. it is that the device, when plugged in, doesnt properly load the driver as it did before.

    rolling back to 4.2.1

  • Turturis

update message above…was running 4.2.2 and updated to 4.2.3 and was unable to use ADB.

rolled back to 4.2.2 and it worked again.

  • ricardo

i am also having prblem with ADB. has always worked prior to upgrading to 4.2.3

i rolled back and it worked for me again.

  • Robert

Ok, reinstalled open home and got back my transparency stuff, but now I have something that i think might be a glitch between openhome and CM. It happens when i flip my fone from vertical to horizontal to do the orientation change. What happens is that if I flip it from longways up and down to sideways, when the screen blurs I flip it back and the drawer gets stuck on the right side of the screen until I flip it again and the orientation corrects itself. Im pretty sure that this is a glitch in openhome because I dont get it in the regular home. Personally I think its badass and would be a nice addition to the current list of customizations that are available. I dont know if its possible or not, but maybe you could write it into the next update. Im currently useing 4.2.3.1 and loveing it oh so much. I’ve never donated anything to anyone, but I think that when I get paid next, Im mos def gonna donate something to ya. What you’ve done for everyone with a moded mytouch is pheonominal and we all appreciate it. Below are two screenshots

  • Robert

Also, I forgot to ask, how do i use the new tethering feature?

  • jginder

Anyone else seeing their battery drained really quickly while the phone is idle since upgrading to 4.2.3.1? Upgraded at 1pm, battery at 100%. Phone sat idle for 5 hours with use at all and was down to 3% – much, much faster than usual.

  • M

I was wondering if it would be possible to provide a GUI of some sort to connect to WPA-EAP (WPA Enterprise) with the user fields able to input username and password…
    I found this website…..
    http://cwshep.blogspot.com/2009/04/wpa-enterprise-on-android-htc-g1-dream.html

    and….
    http://waipeng.blogspot.com/2009/08/howto-wpa-enterprise-on-android-htc.html

I know you are a very busy person, but I am thinking this might not be a big task to accomplish for you, but would help a tremendous amount of people due to most universities and big businesses using the Enterprise version of WPA. I still think that WPA2-EAP is still a no go because the phone doesn’t support it, but I may be wrong!

Just my 2 cents and I love all the work you have done so far! Keep it up!!!!

  • M

and I just looked on xda and found this as well. Mod-you can edit my original post to include this link as well if you want to keep the comments to a minimum

  • cody

since upgrading past 4.2 stable my phone randomly freezes and won’t respond to key presses but will wake to the lock screen.

  • Andy

Anyone know what cyanogen recommends for swap size, Comp Cache settings? I keep reading that bigger is better. Somewhere on the wiki they said it should be 384.

  • http://gl0rify.com Stefing

Was never able to upgrade from the 1′s release to the 9′s release (UK G1), reset everything, went right back to downgrading, rooting etc. and then straight to 4.2.3 – works great! CM-updater took me to 4.2.3.1 with no problems either.
Flash updater still does not work for me though.

  • n3mo

    @Andy
usually 60-80 megs of swap should be enough, compcache is disabled since the .999 I think

anyway, how does the USB tethering work on Windows? after connecting to an XP machine it just asks for drivers. Also, when i check the USB tether option in settings, close the setup go back to settings it says that tethering is disabled, despite the tick being still checked.

  • sparks

Cyan, cant you just change your handle, and start releasing full roms again? I mean.. no one will ever knooooowwwwww…

Haha, Thanks again for all your hardwork.

  • Marc

jginder, i’m seeing the same problem – i’m only getting about 4 hours of battery life now; not sure if it’s the ROM upgrade, but something appears to be draining it. Could be a combination of the rom and some of the software on it? Anyone else notice a battery life issue (p.s. previously i could get a day and a half out of it)

How to make USB Tethering via WiFi (to turn your phone into a WiFi key):
Just run a Terminal Emulator (or adb shell) and type that in (as root, of course) :

    iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o tiwlan0 -j MASQUERADE

You don’t need to type that again unless you reboot your phone.

  • issinoho

Just to let everyone know… re-applying the update fixed my ‘stuck on G1′ boot issue.

  • ambarish

I just installed CyanogenMod 4.2.3 on my G1. I used to be able to see my sim card as a usb drive when I plugged into my phone. In trying to get adb to work, I did something so that now my phone doesn’t even see the usb drive.

When I tried to install/upgrade the usb drivers (using the drivers supplied by Google in SDK 1.6/2.0, I get the following error in my c:/WINDOWS/setupapi.log:
    #-018 Searching for compatible ID(s): usb\class_e0&subclass_01&prot_03,usb\class_e0&subclass_01,usb\class_e0

Have updated with each version as I’ve seen Cyanogen putting them out. Used combination, downloading from XDA, CM Updater, and transfering from my PC. No major problems on the latest builds… For the Battery Life problems: I am still getting about a day & a half out of my phone with light to medium usage & 3g always turned on, maybe it’s a program that’s trying to auto run while your phone is idle. I also try to run my battery as dead as android will let me, and full charge my battery whenever I can. I also end up rebooting about 1 or 2 times a day. Just working on getting USB tether to work on Ubuntu 8.04 right now.

  • Dylan

Cyan Mods F**king Rock BTW. I get to root my friends MT3G soon & will be setting her straight to CyanogenMod. Thank you my friends or sharing the love of open source material and free thinking!

  • ambarish

Made some progress by editing android_winusb.inf and chaning the string PID_0FFF to PID_0FFE
That seems to install the driver, but can’t get adb to see the device as yet.

Anyone having problems connecting to a network after upgrade to 4.2.3.1? I went back to 4.2.2 no luck i then restored latest backup still nothing gonna do a wipe and start over again maybe this will fix it

  • Evan

@kenny: I’m exhibiting the same symptoms. Tonight it just stopped connecting. Are you on T-Mobile?

  • Evan

@Kenny: I went to Settings > Wireless Controls > Mobile Networks > Network Operators. I searched for networks and it lists T-Mobile and AT&T. If I select T-Mobile or Select Automatically, it says my SIM card does not allow connections to that network. Is this the same symptoms you’re exhibiting? I thought it might have been a billing issue, but the tmobile website says I’m all paid up.

  • Nick

I’m having the same “No Service” problem as Owen mentioned. Once I updated to 4.2.3.1 and restarted, I lost all 3G service. No other problems, and nothing else was changed when this happened. Any ideas? Doing a wipe doesn’t seem to help.

  • Nick

Same problem as Evan and Kenny as well.

  • Nick

UPDATE: Nevermind, it seems T-Mobile is having a global network outage. Just coincidence that it happened when I updated. Phew!

  • http://chemicarfare.us James

hahahaha. That’s great to hear Nick. I thought it was something with my rooted g1, that tmobile was blocking at first. I’m having a ‘No Service’ also.

  • Aimee

I just started having the same issue as Kenny and Evan. I am unable to connect to the T-Mobile network. If I go in and select T-Mobile manually, it says Registering on T-Mobile and then says same thing, “Your SIM card does not allow connection to that newtork” This just started about an hour ago. I don’t know what to do. :(

    Any suggestions??
    Help is greatly appreciated.

  • Aimee

Good to know, guys! Thank you foro the UPDATE!

  • http://chemicarfare.us James

I tried to call out on my son’s tmobile ‘razr’ says ‘all circuits busy’ when I tried to call customer care.

  • Scammah

I too am having the “No Service” right now it’s 7:45pm I live in Georgia, USA. This has been going on for awhile now. Anyone get back up and running yet? I can’t even get to T-mobiles site.

  • http://chemicarfare.us James

My g1 is working. I’m unable to send out text messages. Unable to receive also. 6:15pm mountain time. SLC, Utah

  • http://chemicarfare.us James
  • Evan

I’m back on T-Mobile. 827pm EST. Looks like they might have had a little hiccup?

  • spickett22

So… not able to text message either, 8:30 est. Does anyone know of one forum discussing the usb tether not working on xp systems? Everything seems so cluttered.
