    Everyone. Please don’t take this the wrong way and my apologies if I should know this. There seems to be a lot of questions being asked on this forum, with not many answers. Steve, can you please point me (and the others asking for help) to where these questions should go? If you do not have anything set up for us ’slightly more knowledgeable than noob’ folk, perhaps it might be a good idea? I just think that with all of your brilliant and helpful work, you don’t need to be bothered with questions that as a community could be answered and yet still add some value back to your efforts. Anyone?

    I am in the same boat as itemforty, is there a way to go back to the original icons? I don’t like the new eclair ones.

    If anyone could tell me how, I’d greatly appreciate it. :-)

    My update, for some reason, drains the battery fast. I have a G1 and before update I had CyanogenMod 4.2.5. I reverted the update and its good now…

  4. #4 by squarooticus on December 2, 2009 - 12:29 am

    I liked the old dialer (with the round buttons) better. Otherwise, the changes look good. I can’t wait to get Eclair running on my G1.

  5. #5 by Mike on December 2, 2009 - 2:03 am

    this one works great, it solved a lot of problems for me coming from CM 4.2.5. including some lagginess, weather widget/flip-clock not updating, weird market download behavior, etc.
    i noticed however that now it takes longer to load menus, while scrolling lagginess seems to have improved.
    also, no (not with 4.2.5) i had 2-3 reboots when loading apps, or going into the settings of apps.
    Overall however, i am a very happy bunny as it solved so many problems for me. Thanks!

    @CCShermCraig
    i think the questions/answers can be entered under the cyanogenmod thread at forums.xda-developers.com
    the link to it is mentioned at the very beginning of this post

    I still have the strange glitch, where if i reject a call the notification bar stops working until i make a call or accept a call. It’s been like this since i can remember, I’ve wiped and all that good stuff.
    please any help?

  8. #8 by alex o on December 2, 2009 - 3:40 am

    my market place wont work and all my apps are gone… all i did was upgrade… what to do to get my market and apps back????? please help!!!!!

  9. #9 by John on December 2, 2009 - 4:45 am

    my market works fine, it worked before i wiped and after. maybe you need to uncheck internet tethering in settings…that usually helps when my pandora or market doesn’t work.

  10. #10 by alex o on December 2, 2009 - 4:50 am

    thanks for the idea.. i checked and internet tethering is not on… i formatted my sd card before i did the update do u think that might have messed up my g1?

  11. #11 by grey on December 2, 2009 - 5:17 am

    As others have said, smsbackup still borked in this release. I can only guess that maybe some of the new code is in conflict and the guy needs to test it out? But who knows. Otherwise, wonderful work & many thanks!

    Ya… I can’t get google maps either….. it says something about not being signed

    Ever since I updated to 4.2.6 it has been giving me the same issue which is every time I hit the home button the screen goes blank for 30 secs or so and then icons appear. Any idea on how to resolve this issue?

  14. #14 by angelo on December 2, 2009 - 6:39 pm

    It seems like the battery life gets drained really fast by the end of the day my phone is dead where in 4.2.4 my battery life was great any suggestions.

    Open Spare Parts & select “home app in memory”

    Hi! I was trying to report an issue with the tracker but I pressed “enter key” too early :\ and so I couldn’t mark it as a bug, as important and as related to 4.2.6. As it reguards the cpu clock please have a look if u can, it’s #798.

    Sorry about the mess and thank you for all the great job you’ve done (I rooted my phone about 4 hours after I bought it, couldn’t resist!!! :D )

  19. #19 by Ryan on December 2, 2009 - 11:16 pm

    I need some help.

    I have flashed my G1 and Installed the latest mod 4.2.6. Everything works great except for my messages, contacts, and calendars. Every time I try and access a thread it force closes, every time I try and access my contacts or call log it gives me the error home.proccess.acore then force closes, and the calendars just force close randomly in the background and pisses me off.

    I have followed the guide and it worked flawlessly. I have also tried the roms 4.2.5 and 4.1.99 both have the same problem.

    Has anyone ran into this yet or have any ideas?

  20. #20 by Patrick on December 2, 2009 - 11:46 pm

    @ryan,

    I’ve not had that problem, nor have I heard of anyone with that problem, so I don’t know if I can help, however I do have a few *guesses*.

    First, try ‘fix_permissions’ and/or ‘repair ext file system’.

    If that doesn’t work… Are you able to wipe the phone? I mean, do you mind losing all your data and starting from scratch?

    The reason I ask is it sounds like the HTC ROM might be messed up. If you don’t mind wiping, I would wipe your phone, and reinstall the HTC ROM and then the CM ROM.

  21. #21 by Patrick on December 2, 2009 - 11:51 pm

    @ryan,

    Another thought,

    Is it just those three? And, do you know how to use ‘adb shell’? This might be crazy, but you could try deleting those three .apks from /system/app/ and then pushing them back in (from a freshly downloaded CM Rom), and then running ‘fix_permissions’ again. I don’t know if this would work, but it *might* keep you from having to wipe your phone.

  22. #22 by Ryan on December 3, 2009 - 12:31 am

    @patrick

    I have wiped my phone and rooted it again with the 4.2.6 mod and i still get the same error. I cannot access contacts or call log, but i can dial out if I know the number. When I try and access it I get the home.process.acore error and it force closes. The messages i can send a new one but when i try and access the threads it crashes and there are no names just 3 dots. ex. …

    When i wiped it I went back to stock 1.0 and resetup my phone the installed the cupcake update and the flashed recovered it and installed the two zips. everything looks fine and the phone responds well except for those errors and they are kind of important functions not to have.

    Same here, HTC keyboard crash every time he load.

    (HTC Magic 32B/French location)

  24. #24 by Patrick on December 3, 2009 - 2:03 am

    @ryan,

    Yes, those are important :)

    So, I’m confused. You re-installed the ’stock’ t-mobile (or whoever you have) ROM, and then re-installed all the HTC / CM ROMs?

    When you re-installed the ’stock’ rom, did those functions work? Can you access your gmail normally? Did you install any custom SPLs? Are you using apps2SD?

    hmm… very interesting.

  25. #25 by Jesse on December 3, 2009 - 4:04 am

    Love all the work Cyanogen, been using your ROM’s for a while and your site has provided me with a lot of education, may be leaving noob status behind soon, ha ha.
    Since manual update to 4.2.6, I am getting error opening Gmail app, com.google.android.gm has stopped unexpectantly. I checked in Manage Apps and it says that app is not currently installed.
    I searched through the update zip, and can not find the com module anywhere to manually install.
    Am I missing something ?
    I have temp setup IMAP email to access Gmail address and that is working fine. Everything else seems to be working.
    I have G1, no themes installed.
    thanks,

  26. #26 by Eddie on December 3, 2009 - 4:14 am

    I would like to USB tether. 4.2.6 but maybe i’m doing something wrong. 1. plug in via usb 2. settings/wireless / internet tether. 3. go to wireless network and connect to “G1Tether”? is that it? it doesn’t work. what am i doing wrong?

  27. #27 by Patrick on December 3, 2009 - 4:33 am

    @Jesse,

    The Gmail.apk is going to be in signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip/system/app

    It won’t be in the CyanongenMod ROM because of the whole google CnD thing. You need to look in the HTC ROM.

  28. #28 by Ryan on December 3, 2009 - 4:41 am

    @patrick

    ya I reinstalled the t-mobile 1.0 the updated to 1.5 (cupcake) and everything worked perfectly in both. That is what is weird.

    I have not installed any customs spl’s and no I am not using apps2sd. That was my next task.

    I thought I may have down the cm mod wrong so thats when I reset and tried again and the same thing happen like last time so its not me. so i am at 1.5 right now trying to figure out whats up so i can do it right.

    So ya you can imagine my aggravation.

    What setup did you use to successfully mod your phone with cm4.2.6 so i can see what you did versus what I did.

  29. #29 by Patrick on December 3, 2009 - 1:34 pm

    @ryan,

    This is super weird.

    I didn’t do anything special when I installed. I’ve used my phone both with and without apps2SD, with and without compache and/or swap, etc. My point is, I’ve used just about every combination of configurations, and they all worked.

    I there is only one thing coming to mind right now. When you installed the HTC ROM, did you reset the phone before you installed the CM ROM? The ‘proper’ install sequence is as follows:

    1. Download the HTC ROM ’signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip’
    2. Download the latest CM ROM.
    3. Put both ROMs on your SD Card
    4. Go to Recovery
    5. Flash HTC ROM
    6. DO NOT RESET PHONE
    7. Flash CM ROM
    8. reset phone to finish install
    9. cross your fingers

    Maybe you already did this, but it’s the only thing I can think of right now.

  30. #30 by Patrick on December 3, 2009 - 1:38 pm

    @ryan,

    And, make sure you have the HTC file with -ota- in the file name. The correct HTC ROM should be exactly named ’signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip’. If yours is different, that’s your problem.

  31. #31 by Ryan Cardona on December 3, 2009 - 4:36 pm

    @patrick

    Yes I did reset my phone when I installed the HTC Rom, and I am using the HTC Rom named ’signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip’.

    That’s why its weird I followed same install sequence that you did and I cannot find anyone else that has hit the same problem. So ya kind of aggravating.

    Do you have twitter by the way?

  32. #32 by Patrick on December 3, 2009 - 4:48 pm

    @ryan

    That’s freaking weird.

    This has crashed very often for me, often during boot. Also, the battery drains exceptionally fast with this rom. Previous two seemed more stable (certainly 2.4), and neither had the battery life effect.

  34. #34 by Craig Miller on December 5, 2009 - 11:38 pm

    When I updated from cm 4.2.5 to 4.2.6, I started noticing much unwanted lag. The next cm update (came just days later it seemed) 4.2.7.x, I didn’t do a nandroid backup because I did not like how 4.2.6 was running. Turned out that 4.2.7.x was just the same, with or without a custom theme. I then began to wonder if I should reboot and do the nandroid backup to get back to 4.2.5 or install it again from the CM Updater app from the Market. Well, I re-installed (flashed) with the CM Updater app. All is well again with my phone and would recommend to anyone having issues with the same setup/issues as me, to do as I have done.

    Phone: G1, T-Mobile, v1.6, RC83, SPL ???, cm-recovery 1.4
    8 GB SDCard – 6.5 GB for files, 1,040 KB app partition, NO Swap partition. *So I have no access to some of the card’s memory.
    Theme: Any theme seems to work fine (I love seeing them all in action and testing their capabilities)

    I’d love to help anyone out with issues dealing with CyanogenMods on the G1. My FaceBook name is “Craig Miller” and email I use for FaceBook is CMicroTek@Yahoo.com

    I download cm updater but is not working I have Cyanogen 4.2.6 I try to flash the themes but it doesn’t do anything

  36. #36 by Chip on December 23, 2009 - 4:26 pm

    Apps download from Market but “Installation of … was unsuccessful.” or “Installation Failure” occurs for many, even those previously successful.
    Problem started when I upgraded from 1gb non-partitioned SD to 8gb partitioned SD. Some apps were lost in the upgrade and I haven’t been able to restore them. Others work fine and upgrade with no problems, still others (even previously not installed apps) are unsuccessful.

    Current config:
    G1, Firmware 1.6, Kernel 2.6.29.6-cm42, CyanogenMod 4.2.9.1, Build DRC83, running apps2sd with class4 8gb SD partitioned as per

    Any suggestions? Is there a better place to post this question?

    Thanks
    Chip
