CyanogenMod-4.2.7

December 3rd, 2009

This is really an “under the hood” release, with the exception of full OBEX FTP support! Get it with CM Updater, or check the XDA thread for more info.

I was having some problems downloading certain apps from the Market.

Each time I tried to update Google Maps (3.2.1) I would get an error about it not being able to install. I did some research and others were having the same problem. Since I REALLY wanted the newer Maps with Navigation, I reinstalled (from scratch) CM 4.2.7.1. After starting fresh, seemed to work just fine.

Was there a problem that might have been overlooked in the package manager for upgrading from CM 4.6 to 4.7?

  • Zain Saeed

How do I get Cm_updater on my Dream. Plz email me…

  • Michael Adick

    @zain saeed,
you should be able to find it on the market and download it directly onto your dream

  • Zain Saeed

Where do I find the Latest radio for the latest CyanogenMoD for my Dream?

  • Doguhan Uluca

I’m also having some problems with my G1. I can’t answer 1 out of every 3 calls, the phone just gets locked up and then I need to pull the battery out to reset it.
I highly recommend having a very stable phone capabilities. I don’t know if at the OS level the phone app gets special treatment, but I think it should have top priority and it should be the fastest and best application on the phone. Otherwise it gets a little tiring to have a phone that’s really slow…

  • richard

anyone else having battery life issues with this build? I just get the feeling that some of the recent (4.2.6 and 4.2.7) seem to kill my battery faster, am i going crazy?

  • nellouk

Installed 4.2.7.1 no problems everything works has it should keep up the good work

  • lostblur

just to chip in here, but i’ve noticed slight drop in stability going from 4.2.5 to 4.2.6 and up to 4.2.7.1.

by stability i mean ive experienced a higher rate of “taking too long to respond” occurrence, requiring a wait or end response.

its still light years better than stock, which was so bad i was ready to drop G1 all together :)

  • Dennies

I got the same problems, coming from 4.2.5 to 2.6 to 4.2.7.1 the battery times is crap.
    Normaly i got 40% left after a whole day 07.00 – 20.00
but nowadays its below 15% when I get home.

Another problem is that the phone sometimes thinks its time to go to the screenlook mode even thou ur writing an text.

Otherwise keep up with the good work =)

  • Matt

Just updated the maps application to 3.3 and it appears to be broken with this ROM. I get force close every time I open it.

  • John

Me too, Maps 3.0 doesn’t work for me either… anyone got a fix?

  • John

Actually uninstall/reinstall fixes it. Thread here:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=596218

  • MardurHack

Yeah, same thing for me…Maps keeps crashing… :( 4.2.7.1 with Maps just updated to 3.3… The previous version worked fine! :(

  • SpiderMonkey34

    @ Bunta.

I’m having the same problem with a friend’s G1. I followed instructions to the letter and got stuck on HTC 1.6. Now the phone won’t load any Custom rom. Tried a few work arounds and alternative methods, none seem to work, no one seems to care to help. maybe we can figure out what t.f. is wrong if we compare notes.

  • JamesW

I had the same problem with maps. I did a full uninstall of maps and then reinstalled it. It is working fine for me now.

  • Daniel

Just updated the new CM update 4.2.7

Constantly icons on desktop disapear, have to reboot the phone and after a while again the icons disapear.

  • Michael Adick

a full uninstall (e.g. i did it with Super User File Management System (SUFMS) and then reinstall via market fixes the Maps 3.30 force close issue

  • Alan

Does anybody elses keep rebooting after a while?

  • http://www.mzriders.com lostblur

just a follow up on everyones comments. ive updated to google maps 3.3. so far no problems of any kind. i had a force close on touchdown, but after a restart it works fine

  • SpiderMonkey34

    @daniel

I have the same problem but I found out I didn’t need to restart. Press the red end call button to put the screen to sleep and then press the menu button to wake it up and/or unlock the desktop and it will bring the desktop back. Worse case scenario, I had to do it two or three times but it worked. Are you using DXtop by any chance? I’m starting to suspect that the app is a resource hog causing problems after trying GDE for the last couple of hours.

  • Daniel

I’ll definately try that Thanks for info

As to dxtop no i don’t use that unless is already built in with the update.

Thanks for the relpy Much Much Appreciated

  • Luis

Thanks. It runs fast and smooth. I tried the fix on post 23 by andrew for the google maps update and it worked on mytouch3g, thanks andrew. My only complaint is that Ive experienced my phone restarting a couple of times on two seperate occassions. Any and all help is appreciated.

  • Adiseshu

I have 4.2.7.1 on my G1. Battery drains out quickly if WiFi and Blue tooth is on. It is so quick that 50% of battery drained out with in 6hrs. I have not took/made a single call and even display is not turned on

  • aranea

Thanks! Maps works fine on mine. Battery may be going down faster but it may be due to lack of coverage where I work.

  • pandemik

Google maps update to 3.3.0 will not install, “installation error Package was not signed correctly” … :S
Otherwise good release since 4.2.5 and 4.2.7.1 has fixed a few oddities for me, but home screen is also crashing/closing+reloading on occasion, but rare. Still loving speed though :)

  • phatmanxxl

MT3G Came back to cyan after trying other roms, no problems besides maps not installing from the market. Oh well I still have working nav. :) Thanks for your work!

  • tjizzle

What happens when tmobile rolls out ota update? Will we get a cyan version? Im tired of android 1.6

  • SpiderMonkey34

    @ Daniel

no problem dude, I know how it feels when something isn’t working right and you can’t get any feedback.

  • Jez

Had to rollback to 4.2.6 as Spotify will not start on 4.2.7

  • gary

The update to 4.2.7.1 seems to be working fine. The Maps seems to be working OK, I noticed that the data size is increasing with each use of the app. Is there a way to clear the data or reduce the size?

  • morrigan

everything ok, just a question, how can I uninstall amazon.mp3 and Work (Email)?

  • Bunta

    @SpiderMonkey34

Sorry for the late reply dude, haven’t checked the comments in a while because as you can tell, the lack of support is blah.

It sounds like your further than me? So you can, at least, flash the 1.6 rooted base and not CM ROMs?

You said you followed the directions to a T but just to make sure, did you reboot after flashing the 1.6? Cuz its supposed to be flash 1.6 base, DONT REBOOT, then flash CM ROM. Just making sure.

Yea, if your getting 1.6 to work then you have to downgrade to 1.5 and do it all over again. Which sucks.

As of now, my friends MyTouch is running the jd02 Eclair ROM. All other custom ROMs will work on his phone except for the sexy CM ones.

I’m stumped at this point and none fo the Gurus aren’t throwing in their 2 cents. Even Twittered the guy, no response.

  • Bunta

Anybody else in here not able to flash any CM ROMs?

  • Bunta

Not having 4.2.7.1 issues with my G1 because I’m running 4.2.6!

  • KimH

Have been using CyanogenMod since 4.2.6. Compared to the HTC Rom, I experience that my Magic inside my house now constantly switces between a network with ‘Edge’ data and another with ’3G’ data. This is very annoying because it often happens that txt messages are not being sent due to network change etc.

After installing Google Maps version 3316 I get ‘force close’ when trying to start it.

Besides that I am very happy about Cyanogen Mod, and hope that the above issues will be solved in a future release.

    Keep up the good work.

    /Kim

  • sparks

    KimH,

Download ANYCUT from the market, then, make a New Shortcut, to ‘Phone info’

a shortcut will be made on your home screen. When you click it, a window will come up, scroll DOWN to the bottom, them you’ll see a box that says “wcdma preferred” and you can change that to wcdma only, but be sure to switch that back when your done with your 3g/Edge zone.

That should help you not bounce around the 3g to Edge connections.

    Takecare.

Kimh: Try turing the romain off in Menu -> Settings -> Wireless Controls -> Mobile Networks. That will stop you switching between provider networks.

  • SpiderMonkey34

    @ Bunta

Nope, I already got my own G1 ready for post cease and desist CyanogenMod ROMs so I knew not to reboot the phone.

Specifically what happened was as the HTC 1.6 ROM installed, the CM ROM was installing and phone.apk got corrupted bringing the process to a halt. At this point the phone is in HTC 1.6 with the default recovery image so I jumped into that hoping that I could just install the CM ROM from there.

Everything seemed to be working fine with the installation until it gets maybe 50% through the installation and then the installation will abort. No reason, no error message, the phone will just say “installation aborted” and that’s it. I haven’t been able to get past that point. I wiped, reflashed the HTC base then tried the CM ROM again. Same thing. The HTC base installs fine, no problems but that’s as far as I can get.

The phone works obviously but that HTC base sucks total ass compared to the CM ROM that she had on her G1 prior. I tried to downgrade to 1.5 before and start over but the installation just wouldn’t complete. At this point, I’m ready to just buy her a new phone and call it a day.

    this sucks.

    @#19 by pandemik

I’m getting the same package signed incorrectly error. tried uninstall to see if it would install and now i’m google mapsless.

lemme know if you find a work-around.

  • tjizzle

Whenever i have an incoming call and i hit tge back button my screen starts going to sleep in like 10 seconds. Only way i can get this to stop is to kill the dialer in task killer. Anybody else having this issue or kno why im having it?

  • Michael Adick

    @#19 and @several
you have to uninstall old maps version first, either by adb command (look in xda-developers), or by the app “Super User File Management System” – use the app to search for all “map”-related files and delete the apk file.
then reinstall maps from the market. works
then also the 3.3.0 – 3.3.1 update works directly from market

  • Walter

One way to get maps nav to work is to install the m-blend theme. SSiR*Mez included it! http://bit.ly/M_Blend
By the way, is anyone else noticing that ‘home’ is restarting too often, and too slowly?

  • Richard

@lostblur I’m seeing the same drop in stability. So bad that my phone actually refused to let me answer inbound calls (basically locked solid — but bizarrely with the thumbball flashing — then either rebooted itself, or needed me to pull the battery). Scarily, overall it’s *still* better than the stock vodafone carrier firmware.

  • Broke

Tried all the tricks and even wiping the phone clean. Maps will only work with a theme I found. I like the look of 4.2.7, but random things are not working or seem incomplete and rushed. Some force closes here and there.

Michael A, where can I find this Super User File Management System? That’s not the Superuser app (Black Ninja) that comes with the Rom is it? That does/shows nothing when I open it.

  • http://laufer.cs.luc.edu Konstantin Läufer

@LinuxLuver I also had similar stability issues. Things seem to be fine after a clean install as you suggested. Thanks!

  • Michael Adick

    @broke
it’s an app, called SUFMS – it’s a file manager for root users.
use it because the adb command descriptions on xda-developers sometimes refer to ROMS with and sometimes without apps2SD, which makes it confusing using the command-lines (file not found..)
with SUFMS i can use search for “maps” and the app gives me all files that contain the word “maps” and then i can identify the apk file and delete it.

  • sattest

4.2.5 the taskmanager cpu load very small 4% up – in the 4.2.7.1 the cpu load is the most times more then 70% !!! also the battery is low very fast. (half day)

so i switched back to 4.2.5 and all is ok.

whats inside the image? that needs so much cpu load and power??

    thx!

  • Bern

Had 4.2.7.1 installed since the day it was released. Just last night my phone started to reboot what seems to be at random. Anyone else with this issue recently?

  • Broke

Thanks Michael, I’ll try to find it and give it a try.

  • Peter Aandahl

Spotify just came out with a new version and now it’s working with 4.2.7.1
