CyanogenMod-4.2.9

December 18th, 2009

This is a great release in my opinion. The random music and crashes are fixed. I’ve backported lots of Eclair filling to the build, and fixed quite a few bugs.

Get it with CM Updater!

YES!!! Im Installing it. I Got really high hopes

  • Hetal Patel

Hey Steve you were talking about some Hack you found whats was that ?

  • http://carneeki.net carneeki

I’m hoping the driving screen from Eclair is in here :)

If not, it doesn’t matter as every CM update seems to get better and better. Keep up the awesome work!

  • akil

thanks for all the gr8 roms u really are the main reason i love android, plus with these roms u learn how to do minor hacking…..well its a start

  • Waldo

    installing.. thanks!

  • jUstyn!

hope this fixes my open keyboard dialer force close…!

  • archboy

When updating through the CM updater, do you have to do a wipe?

  • LordOfTheDivX

So are you just going to keep back porting things into 1.6, or is there a 2.x in sight for our meager G1′s and MyTouch’s?

  • LordOfTheDivX

No you do not have to wipe, it goes right on top.

  • Brie987

    Thanks you, again :)

  • Mark Vincent

Thank you for the new Update!

  • CaptainShanks

@LordOfTheDivX We’re still in need of drivers for the 2.0 update.

  • keb

Mytouch headphones on dongle don’t work. always speaker playback even though i see the headphone icon.

  • Jesse

    I love it! Thanks!

  • Guru

WOW that was fast .. I am installing it now now now .. and will let u know the results….

    Great job :-) )

  • Kev

The headphones won’t work on the G1 as well. Tried with both stock headphones and aftermarket. I see the headphone icon but all the sounds come out of the speaker.

  • Thasro

Downloaded and installed without a hitch. I have noticed a considerable difference in performance with 4.2.9 than 4.2.8 and earlier.

  • Patrick

The new release looks great, and seems snappier. But just now, after using it for a few minutes, I experienced the blank desktop bug again – all icons and widgets disappear, I only see the wallpaper. :(

  • GustavoJ

I’m also having the headphones issue on my mytouch.

  • Boxcar

PHEW, thanks so much. Builds keep getting better! That random music bug was killing me, I had been listening to “American Psycho” audiobook. Not the thing you want to randomly come out of your phone, while at work!

  • bert

my phone stick on the logo screen with in the logcat :
    E/RIL Acoustic( 129): can’t open /dev/htc-acoustic -1

  • Johnny

I’m having issues with my wired headphones as well. Using a G1. Please fix and it would be perfect!

  • Rob

PPTP VPN has been broken since 4.2.8. I cannot upgrade until this is fixed. I have also read of others having issues since 4.2.8 but it’s still broken.

  • Flashfox

Just updated to 4.2.9.1 after moving to 4.2.9. Tried ENOCH theme but it crashes my G1 with either .9 version. I will wait for an ENOCH update which matches the current Cyanogen version.

  • Rkajor

How make update to CM 4.2.9 on my Magic 32A What do I need ?

  • CyberOne

Have installed it on my G1 and also having problems with the headphone. Reboot didn’t help. Wanted to go back to 4.2.8 but nandroid checksum of my backup is not correct. So there is no going back :-( But for the rest everything is great. For the people having problems with home, it helped a lot when I checked the option for “Home in memory” under “Spare parts”.

  • stan

i cant still update google maps on mytouch3g

  • Dylan

Just installed 4.2.9.1 only problem I found was a looping crash when opening handcent sms, tried reboot, uninstalled handcent, reboot, reinstall fixed it. Checking headphones in a minute. Great job as always. Diggin the black power bar & clock widgets!

  • Dylan

@Stan, google cyanogen maps cant update (or something similar) I fixed it just copying a few commands into the terminal. Sorry dont remember the site. Think it was something on xda.

  • furybeat

There is a problem with the usb tethering, the dhcp stop working.

    @ Rkajor
You need a 32A kernel which will hopefully appear at some point. Please check here, I suppose it will be posted once it gets ready (I wait for it too :) ):

  • http://www.hipocondria.net diana

everything ok except for the headphones issue in my htc magic. Keep up the good work!

  • Thomas

So when is the kernel for the 32A coming out so us with those models can update to your latest and greatest? Keep up the great work!

  • Johnny

Having problems with screen brightness with 4.2.9.1. The widget works fine in adjusting, but none of the 3rd party apps seem to adjust the brightness. Especially the useful flashlight apps. I cannot grow plants in my pocket anymore.

  • Paco

We may some day, synchronize Exchange contacts and calendars as I did the firmware 1.5 from Roger’s?

  • Asif

This udpate rocks. No crashes on call or anything. Everything seems to be working great. thanks a lot!

  • Madstylzz

I use Toggle Data for battery saving. Everytime I reinitialise the data connection the ‘com.android.phone’ FC’s. It fails consistently when changing APN too. Thus issue began for me in 4.2.8 and is still the same in 4.2.9.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

Also, Cyanogen, your awesome to the max!

  • Yuval

    Now the headphones dont work?!!
man, these updates get buggier everytime!

I use the music player with my headphones everyday, all my music is here, I can’t even risk this, please fix this issue.

    thanks :P

  • http://utahpunk.org James

hmmmmm….maybe I won’t be updating if the headphones is an issue. I’ve gotta be able to use headphones.

  • Spencer

I’m having issues with screen brightness as well. Toggle Settings and other 3rd party apps do not adjust the brightness instantly. I have to go to sleep mode and back for the brightness to be changed. No biggie, and no other issues so far. Great work as always, Steve.

  • brandon

I’m not sure if this happened in the new release or not. But I noticed that nandroid backup doesn’t work anymore. Just errors out.

  • http://N/A Paradigm

    Cyanogen,

Excellent work. If any of us had to wait for Rogers et al. to catch up with OTA updates, we’d all be lost.

Running 4.2.8 on a 32A magic, and couldn’t be happier. Not experiencing the random audio issue, reported by many above.

I now use my phone, more than my PC and netbook combined! I don’t use, nor care about headphone usage. And while I recognize it is important for some, I have a media player for that. (gotta save precious battery life afterall)

If you’re ever thinking about teaching an extra set of hands to help with the grunt-work, the email included is valid and checked weekly.

Cheers, and thanks for the fantastic work! Google should be bangin’ down your door.

  • mozzilla

Absolutely beautiful on my Vodafon Magic!
Only the qwerty-only keyboard could be backed up by a qwertz for germans.

  • http://utahpunk.org James

I just ran the update. I have no issues with the headphones.

  • Joshua

On TMobile/HTC G1 – Ran 4.2.9 update on top of 4.2.8.1 – desktop loaded but every app FC’ed as it tried to load. Reboot and same result. Downgraded back to 4.2.8.1 and am stuck at the G1 screen.

    Guess it’s wipe time.

  • Gunther

I wiped and put the 4.2.9.1 on it. it runs great! thx so much. keep up the good work!!

  • schizo

    Thanks for the quick update!

I am having the headphones issue as well as power-saving apps not working (haven’t tried much else). Power Manager doesn’t kill/activate certain features (screen brightness, wifi, etc.).

  • Terrell

Thank you soo much for this release and all the work you have been putting into this. Ive only been using your roms for about a month now but they are by far the greatest. I will be sure to donate. Thanks again

  • ruffneckc
  • Joe

Great Job! But calling someone doesn’t work on …9.1 ;) Looking forward to 4.2.10 :)

    Keep Running!
