This is a great release in my opinion. The random music and crashes are fixed. I’ve backported lots of Eclair filling to the build, and fixed quite a few bugs.

Get it with CM Updater!

could not find where appropriate spot to post questions like this was, so putting it here.
I found the Contacts MOD on your download section, but I have no idea what to do with it. Not a simple apk to install. Is there a guide someplace ? I looked though wiki but could not find one.
    thanks

  • stefan:

    hey,
    great work!
when do you plan to integrate the exchange sync etc.? that would be a great feature!

    keep running!

  • JC:

Audio stops working when listening through headphones when I launch an application. I am using MT3G, through headphones.

Not a big deal, I’ve got some other music to listen to on my computer. Everything else is working great.

Keep up the good work! :)

I’ve noticed that when bluetooth is on and I send a file to my G1, my phone reboots. Any idea why this is happening? This wasn’t a problem with v4.2.8. Thanks.

  • Jonathan:

Using MT3G. So glad that the music issue is fixed. No issues with headphones. Thanks for the hard work!

  • I have upgraded to 4.2.9.1. The proccess of upgrading was perfect, but I see that my G1 is getting problems to sync with google apps such as: Gmail, Google Contacts and Google Calendar. I have cleared the data and cache of those apps, and I ran fix_permissions to see if this problem get fixed. More than that, everything seems OK. Thanks for all the hard work.

  • Specter:

Can’t run any applications while listening to music or the music stops.

  • CCShermCraig:

4.2.8.1 was horrendously slow – this one is worse. Not sure what to do here, but the last few ROMS have been big steps backwards in terms of responsiveness. Anyone else experiencing this?

  • calampang:

map cursor as compass in spare parts setting still will not set sticky

  • Robbie:

I seriously think 4.0.4 was the best I’ve seen. This ROM just gets slower and slower for me. I’m not gonna hate, though. I know you put a lot of hard work into this, and it’s people like you that make owning a G1/MT3G fun. =]

  • sombionix:

@Dylan, had the same problem with handcent sms looping crash problem. Rebooted, uninstalled, reinstalled as suggested, problem fixed! Aside from that, everything seems to work great. Thanks for your work!

  • slow-jazz@comcast.net:

Just saw the handcent sms posts and sure enough it looks like it is a problem. Taskiller shows that it sits in memory and never leaves. Also noticed that gmail and other google apps also stay in memory after syncing.
As a fellow programmer I can understand how exciting it is to ‘be the first’ to put something out there. But, i noticed that your starting to put things out there too fast. Cyanogen, slow down dude. You program great code, but more people are going to leave if you keep breaking things.

  • slow-jazz@comcast.net:

uuggg file this under uggg :) Just went to remove handcent. Went to settings and the manage apps. After it sat there for 20 seconds, I got a force close message. second time i was able to remove handcent, but after the remove when it went back to the manage app program it is now ‘stuck’. (loading box has been up for 1 minute now)
    Just rebooted phone.

  • andya:

Cyanogen! Dude, you rock! I’ve been using your work since JF left the business.

I tried to buy you a beer a few times today but Paypal doesn’t like my AMEX gift card. It works in the marketplace. Do you have an “placeholder app” I could buy?

  • Tony:

Bluetooth force close issue – process com.quicinc.bluetooth has stopped unexpectedly. Bluetooth isn’t working on 4.2.9.1? Anyone else getting the same error?

  • shawn:

It takes me an hour n half to dl cause of shitty service but worth evey second love it check bout 5 times a day ahaha. Question though what do u mean by elair backports?

  • VegasJeff:

Seems the music player is heavily using CPU. I also see it occurring on Pandora radio. When running concurrently with Maps app, the music stops playing after some time. I’ve seen this about 3 out of 4 times. I am using MyTouch3G.

  • Tony:

Yeah, I just can’t live without bluetooth obex…I wiped, and reinstalled my nandroid backup of 4.2.8.1 and voila! bluetooth is back so I think it’s this build (otherwise, I would’ve said it’s probably user error!) :)

  • Bocaj:

I don’t have the original headset cord for the G1, but the HTC adaptor (little block with lots of different ports) plays through headphones just fine. I like the adaptor better because I can charge and listen or even hook it up to a pair of speakers.

  • Ben White:

Thanks for all your hard work!
Having an issue with the music player stopping if It’s not in the foreground.

  • DancingWombat:

For the people that say the later firmwares are much slower: What phone are you using. My G1 has had 4.0.4, 4.1.11.1, and now 4.2.8.1 on it. 4.2.8.1 is MUCH faster than the others for me. Do you have your SD partitioned? Is it ext2 (it shouldn’t be). I have 512MB ext3.

  • CCShermCraig:

    @DancingWombat I’m using a MT3G and I have not partitioned my phone.

  • amr0th:

Great job. Please check btooth. It reboots magic when receing files.

    Thx

  • adicts:

    market wont work…

  • MHP:

Anyone else having issues with sms notifications not switching to the correct sms? I send 4k plus a month and every time since upgrading from 4.2.9 it won’t auto switch. I sent a couple bad sms to the wrong people. Also gmail sync is at a minimum 45 minute delay. Other wise great great rom and work.

  • planetxbob:

Running 4.2.9.1 and its running nice and fast for me, better than .8.1 by far… my music plays fine in the background… havnt had a chance to try the headphones out yet though

  • CaptainShanks:

Thanks for the quick fix on that headphone issue in the update! I keep both my girlfriend and I on the latest CyanogenMod, and she is a heavy music listener, so 4.2.9 was scary for a sec XD I need to buy you a beer when I get the dough.

  • Trevor Redhead:

When trying to flash a new image I get the exclamation mark inside the triangle.
    I do ALT L
    and then it says
    E: can’t open cache/recovery/command

    Any help would be appreciated!

I can boot back into the normal setting and my phone works, except I cannot flash a new image.

  • Patrick:

    @jesse,

Not sure what the difference between the one in 4.2.9.1 and the mod page, but you will probably need to do something like the following:

    1. Rename the file Contacts.apk
    2. Copy the file to your sd card
    3. Go to the terminal
    4. cp /sdcard/Contacts.apk /system/app/Contacts.apk
    5. Reboot your phone

    Or, do this from adb…

  • ((RayDar)):

VPN is still broken in 4.2.9.1.

This oversight makes it unusable to those of us who rely on VPN. We are stuck back at 4.2.7.1 — the last version where the VPN works properly.

  • Avinash:

Hey People, when is the OS2.0+ mods coming?

  • Aceman:

STILL rebooting/crashing. It lasts a little longer before it randomly reboots, that tells me this build is a little better.

I thought my phone was completely dead for awhile there, after repeated attempts to turn it on failed. But sometimes it actually works normally…..for about 5-10 minutes, then it just reboots or turns off completely.

I’m thinking maybe if I can manage to get to recovery to flash 4.2.7.1, it just might fix it. But just getting my G1 to reach recovery is a challenge in itself. Sometimes it’ll reboot just as I can get to the recovery screen. I refuse to give up on it until I can flash 4.2.7.1.

  • william:

having issues with the market… an app will download, but when it tries to install, i get a force close. anyone else? might have to go back a version or two unless anyone has input.

  • stpgod:

On both the previous and current release, my G1 can connect to bluetooth, but the audio and mic is still all going through the G1 not the bluetooth device (prius). Anyone have any ideas?

  • Sam:

    Great job!

Everything is running very smooth on my G1. I Noticed that since the update, and since I launched Google Nav/Map I keep getting a “The application Maps(process com.google.android.apps.maps) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. After every Power-ON and randomly when I hit the “home” button. I’m not sure if it has anything to do with the recent update or if it is a Google problem. Just thought I would toss it out if anyone else is having this error and has a fix. (I am a Root Noobie, only had it for about 2 weeks now, owned me G1 since its been out tho.)

  • @Trevor Redhead
You have successfully unrooted your phone. :)

You’ll need to install the cm-recovery.img file via FASTBOOT in the bootloader. There are instructions on how to do this in great detail on xda-developers.com.

  • For those of you experiencing lagging issues. I have found in my experience that sometimes installing a ROM with a fresh start will help fix a lot of issues. When you continue to pull your apps from the sd card and never fully clean all the partitions of your sd card, remnants of previous ROM versions can collect and cause undesirable results. I’m not suggesting you do anything brash but I’m just saying that I’ve had lagging issues with response times when moving from application to home and they were all fixed by clearing the slate.

  • @Sam
Uninstall Maps and reinstall the latest version from Market.

  • Sam:

Thanks for the quick response it worked, One other issue I just had, my Camera is force closing also… G1….

I dont use Camera//Camcorder that much but I just hit the button and it Force closed, then I rebooted seemed to do it again…

    Thanks In Advance

  • muze:

Sweet update, fixed all of my old issues. Unfortunately, it reintroduced an older one; the non-included widgets fail every boot and need to be deleted and restored.

That barely matters though, this is running great, really fast, and no more ghost music.

  • SpiderMonkey34:

    @ trevor

This happened to me trying to update a friend’s phone. You have to roll back to 1.5 firmware and then re-root the phone. Or you can use the cyanogenwiki page to get the instructions on how to reinstall the cyanogen 1.4 recovery.

  • toadfootns:

Updated with CM updater…working very nice! No problems so far!

  • Tony:

@toadfootns: this is a fast rom, however the prob is no bluetooth file transfer and vpn seems to be nonworking since 4.2.7.1 as a previous poster mentioned. hopefuly, this is FIXED in the next release or maybe, we’ll get the Full ECLAIR in the next release? :fingerscrossed:

  • kamikazi:

love the update and fastness. but after going to home screen from an app its very slow to load the home screen n sumtimes goes blank for 30sec be awesome if you cld fix. and please can ne tell me what all this elcair backport means? thank you and keep up the good work

  • Arno:

In your opinion?! This is the best release EVER! So snappy and smooth. And hallelujah, the home screen doesn’t lag and take forever!!! I love it, if this release was a woman I would marry it!

  • Rich:

Anyone else having an issue with the gps location since update? my gps constantly shows me in geneva, switzerland since I updated. Any tips on fixing this? Thanks.

    Juergen

  • Juergen:

    I meant Version 4.2.9.1

  • Eddi:

Nice work on the ROM but could you PLEASE integrate eclair’s capability to have more than one gmail account? I have one forwarding to my main one but I hate how it shows my personal email rather than the one from work. Or does someone out there know of a way to get around that? Thanks
