This is a great release in my opinion. The random music and crashes are fixed. I’ve backported lots of Eclair filling to the build, and fixed quite a few bugs.

Get it with CM Updater!

JBED (the J2ME Virtual Machine) ISN’T WORKING ON THIS VERSION (4.2.9.1)!!!
    Downgrading back to 4.2.8.1…

  • DancingWombat:

@CCShermCraig: If you haven’t partitioned your SDcard, then you’re intentionally crippling your phone. CM does a lot with that space, and you’re not letting it.

  • william:

Alright, I wiped and rebooted and I’m not having market problems anymore, but my third party app (quick settings) no longer has any effect on screen brightness… g1 with cm 4.2.9.1 and stock 2.0 theme for metamorph.

  • juice:

    handcent + cyanogen 4.2.9.1 = FAIL

    please update…

  • Eric:

    Works great on mytouch 3g

  • jordanbnell:

4.2.9.1 runs real fast, but Java doesn’t seem to be working in the browser.

    Keep up the awesome work!!!

  • mosconi:

Hey has anyone experienced problems with connecting to google talk and downloading apps from the market after this 4.2.9 Rom update? It doesnt seem to be working whether connected by 2g or 3g. not sure if it will work in Wifi. Or if it does work please let me know also. Thanks.

  • Tim:

I have to say despite all of the complaining, this is the best version yet. The ROMs are worth more than any pay app on the Market. Thank you so much for your willingness to do this!

  • tom p:

i just cannot get my pc to recognize my mytouch3g so that i can partition sd and start reaping the benefits of apps2sd…wt$%#@? i’ve tried everything (i think) i have the tutorials, but not gonna help until my pc actually has the right usb drivers … the ones in the sdk dont work and neither did the fix i found (changing name of the one .inf file and deleting the registry entries, etc.)…i dont get it…wish there was an app to format and partition the sd card……..any advice anyone? oh, otherwise, i love the rom and i am gonna buy you that beer

  • michael carter:

Ever since I updated my music keeps stopping and I get a lotta random crashes =(

  • Jo Mama:

Like the update LOVE the new power bar widget look Keep it up!! Seems like phone running apps quicker too

  • Jo Mama:

Tom, try using a hard disk manager, I use Paragon Hard Disk Manager, U may have to play around a bit, but I had to wipe my card, then partition it, install the mod and apps2 sd working gr8, showing two partitions Make sure you make one partition FAT32 partition, and one ext2 or 3 partition. Thats the only way I could do it without a card reader was using a third party app, I would think any hard disk/partition managing program would work. Just make sure you do a nandroid backup first

  • hadji:

Handcent explodes (the display flashes while it is open, rendering it useless). Brightness also seems to fail in my power management app (Power Manager 1.6.3.)

Thank God for nandroid. Rolling back until next update.

  • Joeg05:

I know it’s a noob question, but if I dl the update with cmupdater, how do I update it? Do I just boot into the boot loader and flash it on top? Please e-mail me if you can help. joeg05@gmail.com

  • Michael Adick:

for all who have problems with Handcent:
    uninstall Handcent, reinstall. works
no need of rolling back CM

  • shibby:

    Hi!

Just updated, first impression : It’s fast!!!

I’ll say more in a few days!

    Thanks for the great work…

  • Cyril:

anyone else having problems with missing sms?

  • CHR:

i’m newbe into the rom thing, but i have Q, is it possible to get a Rom copy works just fine, i mean something stable like win mob or the iphone os or whatever, i mean, having to upgrade all the time just to deal with new issues and bugs isn’t just nice.
Anyway, thanks for the generosity cyanogen.

  • Chassit:

Tried the new 4.2.9.1, found an annoying bug with Handcent SMS. Initially everything was OK, but the first restart after flashing resulted in serious malfunction of Handcent SMS. The application screen simply flicks between normal display and blackout with a frequency of about 3hz. More restarts doesn’t seem to solve the problem. The Android default SMS application is OK though.

  • shmigao:

@CHR, CM works just fine. G1/Dream and Android stock was buggy and laggy as hell, just as the Windows XP on my Desktop PC – CM just makes it better and better (including more features that weren’t available before).
from what i have heard iPhone is not near as flexible as Android…. but i may be wrong.
I like that with G1/Android I can personalize my phone to what I like in almost anything…

  • g1love:

I am also having the issue in the market where it will download updates for applications, but then it force closes on install.

  • guitardad:

ALWAYS FCs (sorry! android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly) when going from APP W/ KEYBOARD OPEN back to HOME SCREEN. This is my only issue with the new release – otherwise I love it, love it, love it! I think I need to send an XMA$ gift!!!

  • Caleb Avery:

On my G1 I am still having problems even with this update. I still will exit any app only to find that the phone is totally unresponsive for several minutes to any touch on the screen. Screen also only shows wallpaper. No Icons. I can do stuff with the hardware buttons such as answer a call or make a call. The touch screen works in the phone app for example. Then I exit it and it’s right back to just wallpaper. The only time I can get the icons back is after rebooting. Or if I roll back to factory ROM.

  • sparks:

Any fixx for the super delay with gmail syncing up? That flaw failed this rom for me. Mad love though

  • Arno:

Hey, Yuval, this is not for idiots. If you don’t like it don’t use it.. this is not a bitch fest here, this is a place where we show appreciation to people who spend their time providing us with an amazing product.
No, it won’t always be smooth, if you want smooth go get an iphone.

  • ArTG818:

Thanks everything seems to be working! Great Cyanogen owns!

  • bb:

    that’s really awesome and wonderful!

  • kLyon:

Corroborating missing sms (using handcent; don’t know if it’s that or the rom… ). Sometimes one will show up; if I don’t answer it right away it will just disappear completely.
Also, sometimes if getting in an elevator or leaving a place with no coverage, the phone will refuse to resume coverage until I reboot. Not always, just sometimes (I thought random was for car problems?) But it’s nothing that can’t be dealt with and the work (CM’s) is fabulous.

  • Brandon:

How do i change to the 4.2.9 boot image

  • calampang:

ok, i’ma nub, this week, I rooted & did 4.2.8, then updated to 4.2.9 almost the next day, all was fine, but i hosed it with a theme, so i did a wipe & repartitioned sd, but now my version of market (the newer one with the t-mobile button) is now back to version 1.66, i rstored the one i had backed up, but its the same version it seems. how can i get the newer one back? (like i said, i just started this week with root, so it may have been under 4.2.8 that i had the newer market version, unsure, i just remember that it was there after i flashed the mod). any help or a link for the apk would be great. if this is a touchy subject, i will understand. (p.s., i would ask in the irc channel, but when i try to open it, it logs me off & i cant type anywhere to be able to register nick, any help there would be appreciated also).
    thanks

  • Evengard:

Waiting for an update which will fix JBED! I have a vital j2me app which i can’t just not use!

  • I ran fix_permissions because I was getting problems with some Google Apps. Some of them has disappeared but Gtalk app still forces to close :(

  • Eric:

This is one of the slowest releases. Here are a couple of the flaws noticed:
    - Opening mail in Gmail App takes up to 1 Minute.
    - Sometimes, mail in Gmail App doesn’t open at all, just goes back to inbox.
    - opening Gmail App always goes back to the same email, doesn’t default to inbox.
    - The browser is slower than in the 4.8.* releases.
    - scrolling issues in the browser. at times it doesn’t let me scroll at all.
    - Much more crashing in general. Especially on new incoming mail. pulling down the notification bar and trying to open mail freezes the phone.

I am usually a big fan of these roms, but this one really didn’t work out.

Thanks anyways, it’s been great except for this release.

  • calampang:

i, as a nub, also had the slowness everyone is complaining about when i patched 4.2.9 over .8, but as i stated a couple posts ago, i borked it & had to do-over, ended up repartitioning & installing from 4.2.9, now i have no slowness. just fyi. i did seem to lose latest version of market somewhere along the way, but unsure if thats really a bad thing, but i wanna be close to stock on the original apks to avoid any anomolies.

  • shmigao:

i really don’t know why so many people have so many problems supposedly with this ROM… since I and some others here report almost no problem, it can’t be the ROM… if something goes wrong, it must be something else.
    try WIPE and FIX_Permissions
    Examples:
Gmail (some report problems with opening) works perfect as ever for me
Handcent had to be reinstalled, but works after that
4.2.9.1 slower than previous – not if a wipe & fix_permission was performed.

  • calampang:

shmigao, please explain the order in which you did everything, i ask because before i borked the 4.2.9.1 by applying a theme (which wasnt updated for 9 yet, duh), i had the force closes, slow between screens, etc that most are complaining about, & i went to terminal & did the fix_permissions, it really didnt seem to help, but then i did the repartition & then reloaded apps, & im good. its faster than stock, but not quite as fast as 4.2.8 imho, but then again, im brand shiny new at this, & only played with 8 for about a day before 9 came out. please tell me proper order, like does fix_permissions go before or after you restore apps?

  • Love this update. Fixed the issues I encountered with 4.2.8 and sped everything up tons

  • Eric:

    fix_permission script is where?
any info on this? searched the wiki, but nothing.

  • aaron:

    @eric:
top of page. downloads>mods>never wipe before install

  • Eric:

Guys, thanks for the tips. I wiped and reinstalled and it’s a day and night difference now. Amazing. Didn’t try the fix_permissions.sh script as I have to copy that to my sd card, cm-updater I can do without hooking up to the computer.

  • Hellfire:

    Hi everyone, Cyanogen
Nice job man i had several issues with 4.2.8 and 2.8.1 so i made rollback to 7.1… Now this version solves the crashes while trying to do a call… I just have the issue that a couple of buddies point up there with the music player that stops when i open another app.. Beyond that enverything seems to be just fine on my G1, super fast :D

  • shmigao:

    @Eric:
you can do fix_permissions in recovery screen, just choose the console, then “su”, then “fix_permissions”, let the program finish the job, and then “reboot”

  • shmigao:

i also recommend that all that have problem use the link right on top of the post: “http://forum.xda-devel….”. There are answers for every question, + more questions can be asked
This “comments” forum here is what it is, a comments forum. for Q&A, go to xda-developers

  • hobbes:

Updated with CM updater. No probs and none of the problems discussed on this page. Runs fast and sweet as all the updates have.

  • shmigao:

    @calampang:
0a. Use a backup software (e.g. My Backup) to backup apps.
0b. Usually I make a copy of my SD card to HDD, so that in case of problem (i had SD cards dying on me before, at least the data is secure
    1. reboot recovery
    2a. Nandroid backup
    2b. Wipe
2c. apply any zip “CM 4.2.9.1″
    3. reboot, let it fully load, let google syncronize
    4. reboot recovery

    5. use either adb shell while in recovery screen, or console in recovery screen:
    su
    fix_permissions
    wait till it’s finished
    reboot

    Done

  • shmigao:

    and:
fix_permissions script doesn’t have to be installed separately (anymore), because it’s already integrated in the recent CM ROMS

i do not wipe at every upgrade, usually i wait for the “big” one for that – but I always (!) fix_permissions

  • Sam:

Thanks again man! You make the G1(With CM added) LoL@Droid. My G1 Upgraded with CM updater has been running great after a couple minor fixes. Overall Great Job. With so many updates and so Few errors — Shows what a good Programmer you are. Keep up the great work! Buying a whole round of beers on me :)

  • Eric:

@shmigao, cool thanks. I didn’t know it’s already included in the rom. thought I have to download that first.

  • k-dub:

I too am having headphone problems on the G1. My callers complain of having an intense amoumt of static (don’t hear it on my end btw). Also, when headphones are plugged in, I have gotten the dreaded music playback issue, even after the latest update. The issue seems to be gone when the phones are not plugged in.

Great update as usual though. I just love this ROM. Thanks for all the hard work.

  • Andy Ward:

Phone had crashed quite a lot since installing this. Mainly in the browser and gameboid.

Also quick question: is there any point in partitioning my sd if it is a slow one (class 2).
