CyanogenMod-5.0.8 has landed!

CyanogenMod-5.0.8 for Nexus One, Droid, Dream, and Magic has arrived!

This is by far the BEST CM release! So much good stuff in there that you won’t even know what to do with it. And ADW Launcher is now the default launcher! This is another huge milestone for the Android community.

Note that for Nexus One, the Froyo radio image is REQUIRED.

All versions are available from ROM Manager, and the Nexus One build is currently available from CM Updater also.

The ROM is fast and my download speeds are unbelievable. Only one issue that I noticed. For the first time since I left stock 2.1 my keyboard had the touch error, where it mis-registered my touch. A reboot fixed it will see if it happens again.

Okay guys, I am not sure if it is okay to post questions here, but I am going to go ahead and do it.

First off – I love the ROM, I agree with Steve – this is a great release. It is fast, it is smooth, the launcher is great – overall it is kick ass!

But – once I get it going and all is sweet and groovy I cannot reboot or power down. If I do that I am stuck at the G1 screen forever. That is every time. A wipe and new flash fixes the issue, but… but that is every time!

Ideas? Is it only me having that issue?

No option for signing into google account on g1, so no contacts. Also no gtalk, or gmail apps. And I erased market off home screen and now it is no where to be found….. gonna try re flashing.

I just rooted my nexus one for the first time to the latest root mod. The phone appears to be a lot more snappy , stable, and has several options which I have not explored yet.

I do have one problem which is that it seems to take a lot longer to transfer a movie (around 1.4 Gb) from my laptop to the phone over USB after rooting the phone. Has anyone experienced this problem and can recommend a solution?

It’s not a deal breaker, but just something I noticed.
I appreciate any help.

Thanks a lot for all of your ROMs!! The 5.0.8 it’s very good but I found 2 errors: first, I installed LauncherPro before upgrading and then the settings of ADW weren’t displayed on the settings. Second, I have an error with the text in Robo Defense, in the game.
But besides that, Cyanogenmod it’s pretty great as the 5.0.8, thanks a lot.

I went from the last 4.x straight to 5.08, skipping 5.07 just in case. I must say, 5.08 is waaaaay better than 4. Not only does it have more features and looks better, but it’s actually faster! 4.x was kinda slow, but 5.08 on G1 is chugging along nicely (no N1, but still not bad). Great job!!!!

Thank you Jesus. I was almost ready to abandon Cyanogen. my phone had been running so slow, but with the update, it’s snappy, and there seems to be twice the available memory, according to Taskiller. Lots of options, like determining row and column setup on the desktop.

But there does seem to something weird with ROM manager. When I tried updating, it failed, because it never actually downloaded the ROM. I had to go into Manual setup to get it to download, and then it installed fine.

Does Bekit’s 0.8.4 work on CM 5.0.8?… is that a stupid question?… should they always be forward compatible?

Im using a nexus one with CM 5.0.7. Where can I find the froyo radio image that I need? And how do I get it onto the phone properly? Before I only needed to use the cm-updater to update CM, but now I must fix the froyo radio image first, right? So if I download the update through the cm-updater I shouldn’t apply the update until I flashed the froyo radio image to the phone?

You did not install the gapps. Look on the cyanogenmod wiki on where to get them. The file must be flashed over the CM rom.

Thank you everybody for the amazing work. I am overjoyed with running a smooth 2.1 rom on my G1! Even smoother than Superbad. I’m baffled.

@Keenan: I had this problem since 5.0.7n1. I cannot get swiftp to work anymore and get destination unreachable when pinging its IP address.

Flashed the ROM today. Everything works fast and smooth, but when I press the Green button, I get the message, “The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly…” I can’t seem to call anyone. How do I fix this?

i had almost given up hope on my HTC MyTouch until someone referred me to this mod… the people who came up with this are absolutely brilliant!! my phone runs amazing now. thanks for all the work you guys did to make the old phones worth having again!! i will defiantly be donating a good sum here in the near future! keep up the good work guys! thanks again.

Austin. Was it difficult to root your phone? I am feeling the same way about my MyTouch, but have become very interested in rooting and loading a custom ROM like cyanogen. I cannot use the easy method that is posted on the Unlockr. I am going to have to use the Gold Card method. I am moderatly tech savy but am afraid that I will brick my phone.

wow, my g1 was runnin great with this rom since it came came out, and crashed outta nowhere, wouldn’t even boot up, gotta love nandroid. but any suggestions what it could’ve been??

I just updated to 5.0.8 from 4.2.15.1 and WOW it’s snappy and slick, it even boots faster .
I notice 2.1 is very memory hungry – even though it handles low mem well.
I had to push a custom userinit.sh to enable a 200mb swap partition, and CM is using most of my 100mb ram and 70mb of swap! But phone is very responsive and multitasking very well.

I have the MyTouch and I went to record video. Turned my options to the new 720 input, and it immediately terminated, force closed as soon as I turned the new option on. Now whenever i go to camera app it’d fine but when i click it up to record video it crashes immediately, not allowing me to switch the settings back to normal recording mode. :/ PLus there’s no replacement camcorder to download in the market.

Other than that, this is a truly astounding rom. Thank you so much.

My clock app won’t run. I used it to set an alarm last night in order to wake early for a sunrise hot air balloon ride, but the alarm never went off.

I’ve reboot and run fix_permissions fwiw, but the app doesn’t run at all now.

Any suggestions?

The release is amazing. It feels quick and “swooshy”, a joy to use. Also like the updated UI.

There’s one annoying bug though. Bluetooth broke again. It connects unreliably to my car, and won’t disconnect even hours after being out of reach. I had the same with one of the older CM 4.x, but the latest one then worked fine. Now it’s broken again in CM 5.x.

What happened to the gallery? 5.0.7 had a nice new gallery with support for picasa, 5.0.8 is back to the classic gallery, what happened?

also that text overlay issue with robo defense is also in logcat live wallpaper, mostly random ascii characters with occasional text placed in the wrong fields (the right text for that appication, in the wrong field, it seems to only active fields are affected, hopefully this helps)

On my DREAM 32B. Wiped and updated to 5.0.8 as instructions… And it becomes way slooow on certain screen changes. Also battery lasts waaay less than 24 h, no calls, and bluetooth, wifi, 3G and data disabled… Any thoughts how can I find the CPU hog?… Not mentioning the infamous minimum screen bright is still not the minimum the hardware can accept!: “echo 8 > /sys/class/leds/lcd-backlight/brightness” Anyway, thanks for your work.

I also went from 4.something to 5.08 on my T-Mobile G1 and damn, is it fast now! Absolutely no problems with the update. Excellent work as always.

Upgraded from version 4.something on the mytouch and its so much faster. only problem is that with spare parts i cant get the “end button behavior” to ‘go to home then sleep.’ also, cant get bluetooth to work.

I updated from 4.2.1 via the ROM Manager, and after going through the install process and it auto-rebooting, my phone got stuck on the T-Mo/G1 boot-up screen. Removing the battery and rebooting didn’t help but could I get into Recovery.

Ended up reloading 4.2.1 to get it back up and running. Any suggestions?

@brklynmark : I have the same problem like you do and ended up unrooting my G1. today I root it back and tryed the 5.8 update and my phone even right now is still on the G1 screen!!!!! PLEASE FIX IT AND GIVE US G1 USERS A ROM THAT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I just wanted to give a quick shot out to the Cyanogen(mod) team. I brought my htc dream over to Kuwait with me from Germany where I am currently deployed to. I thought I would give it a shot. I was surprised that I was able to figure all of this out. I had to create a gold card first and install the old patch before I could update the phone. I did not have a micro sd reader per say but I was able to do the gold card process while using an old MP3 player that has a micro sd slot built in. After the phone was rooted, I was able to apply Amoon’s RA Recovery, update the radio, the Danger_SPL, Cyanogen(mod), the gmail/market app, and then convert the keyboard from QWERTY back to QWERTZ without a hitch.

I have been running 5.0.8 for about two weeks now without a hitch! I know this is more of a ramble, but I’m bored and I wanted to show my appreciation.
