CyanogenMod-6 Progress

June 30th, 2010

It’s been just under a week since Google released Froyo (Android 2.2) into the open-source world and we’ve made great progress on CyanogenMod-6 already. Approximately 20 of us on the CM team are working hard on merging all of the community-developed extras in, as well as porting to new devices. Google did a great job and really gave us the best foundation to start from this time around.

Here’s where we stand so far.. Most of the CyanogenMod extras have been merged. Some features are being reworked (like trackball settings), new device ports are well underway. The first devices to see CM6 experimental releases will most likely be the Nexus One and Droid simply because those are the devices that “just work”. The Dream/Sapphire port has everything working but one small issue remains. Wes Garner has the Slide port well underway. I don’t have a status report of the Desire, Incredible, and Evo versions at this time.

I’m expecting that we should have some experimental releases by the weekend, but please don’t spam us asking for ETAs.. We are just as excited to get this out as you are :)

You can follow our progress on Github or drop by irc.freenode.net in #cyanogenmod or #koush.

Regarding updates to CM5.. A small update will be coming this weekend to fix a few bugs but the focus will remain on CM6!

Thanks to everyone who has been supporting us with testing, bugfixing, code, new features, and of course donations. CM is what it is because of the community. Thank you!

Hey, can’t wait for CM6 for my G1, Cm5.0.8 is the fastest rom I’ve ever used, loving it mate. Keep up the good work guys :D

  • Jeremy

I didn’t see anyone else with this problem but I get stuck in a boot loop everytime I try to load CM6. I always do a wipe before I begin.

  • lucky

if you are using 32A/EBI1 them just flash CM6 then the EBI1 kernel 5.0.8. mine works perfect excluding GPS,Maps,Camera…BT seems t work…..from South Africa MTN

Sounds like CM6 is moving along at lightning speed! From the discussion page, it looks like the issue on D/S is halfway figured out already… can’t wait to get some FroYo on my Dream. ;)

  • adit

Can’t wait cm on my droid! Thanks for all the hard work.

  • Aaron

    Great work, everyone!

I thought that I had better add another “ATTA-BOY!” This is exciting news. I just thought back to being excited about getting my G1 on the release day. The excitement of when “root terminal in the background” was found, the fun of the JesusFreke days (not that long ago, really). We certainly have come a long way.

  • tampanoob

thanks for your work! I am a big fan of community software development, and I am excited to try cm6 on my evo. I will be rooting for the first time just to install cm6 on my phone. the community response odd so positive I can’t imagine wasting time on anything else. I will definitely be a paying supporter.

  • tampanoob

    *is so positive*

Really need Advanced Launcher’s feature of creating folder and organizing apps and hiding apps from the app drawer.

I have about 200 apps some are just licenses or home app’s skins or themes…I seldom use them but dont wanna delete them. It would be great if ADW launcher could have this feature or we cud have an advanced launcher for CM5 n upcoming cm6. Thanks!

  • excellentnuke

Just out of curiosity, will this be using the latest FRF84B update?

Dude, I’m not even going to lie. I’m in love with Cyanogenmod. I will not buy a phone unless you have made a mod for it :-) Can’t wait for 6.0 I’m checking the site every day

  • ashjas

Hi will cyanogenmod ever be available for samsung galaxy s phones??

  • Thomas

Can’t wait to get Froyo. As soon as you have even a remotely stable CM6 with almost everything working .. I’m flashing :D

  • http://thedaneshproject.com Danesh

I’m on Alpha 1 now. Loving it man!!!! :D

  • http://obiox.us.to Wesley

HeroC already has an almost fully working (‘cept camera… D:) version now :D

  • g1 on fire!!!!

u guys are sexy beast for bringin froyo to the but the most important question is WILL FLASH 10.1 RUN ON UR ROM??!! the xtreme froyo rom doesnt have it n that blows

  • Hobok

Great job with the ROM! I’m surprised to see that you’re already close to releasing the froyo version (CM6) and I can’t wait to try it out! :D

However, the weekend is coming to a close and still no update for CM5 on the Dream. :(

  • Tony

    @g1 on fire!!!!

I would count on flash running on a G1, it’s not compiled to run on such low end hardware. If it did work the performance would most likely suck.

  • arno

Hobok, you will wait till next weekend if you have to. Or maybe next month. Those guys are working tirelessly so you can enjoy your free ROM, let them at least have a decent 4th of July weekend, what do you say?

  • Sender288

My N1 today got an OTA update to FRF91. Hopefully the soon-to-be-released CM6 will use that build (or later?)

  • jr313

  • Hugo

I’ve donated before and I will donate again as soon as CM6 comes out. My wife and I use Cyanogenmod and it is definitely the #1 Rom for the Nexus One.

  • ilikepie

Also notifications bar keeps hiding even when I have it uncheched.
Thanks for all your hard work.

  • Keller

Where is the link to the alpha release?

  • MrBill

The alpha release is only for the N1, it is located here

    http://goo.gl/s50h

  • MrBill

But if you want to compile one for your phone, it is on his wiki page. Was very easy once I got Ubuntu installed.

  • Dich

Won’t wait till CM6 for DS is out, enjoy the beer Cyan&Co !

  • cinek1987cinek

    Hello ;)
Waiting for CM6 ;) [HTC MAGIC 32A];P heh

  • Mobile Nerd

It took me a second to realize that the “Sapphire” is actually the Magic. I don’t think it’s been called the Sapphire since well before it launched. But I’m glad you will be supporting the Magic. I’m a happy MT3G/Magic 32B user, and I can’t wait for JIT.

  • sindre

You guys have plans to base this on the FRF91 build? Coz this version drops Wi-fi after a while in sleep mode. The FRF91 doesn’t..

  • firestruck

Hi can you add to the room the display language portuguese-Portugal?That would be great! Thanks for this rom and keep the good job as always!Best regards

  • reinCARnate

Tried donating, but had trouble with checkout, will try again. Great work you guys are doing. Anyway, been meaning to post a few annoyances I’ve had for awhile…

    1. Can’t share data connection with other apps (eg maps, etc.) while on a phone call.
    2. No built in Battery Status widget
    3. Can’t micro-manage which apps are allowed to use background data. (ie: i want to allow official gapps like gmail, contacts, calendar, but don’t want to give free reign to other apps to run in background)
    4. No built in “task killer”
    5. No syncing of text history with account

  • reinCARnate

Oh, oh, one more things I forgot to mention.

Wouldn’t it be cool to be able to enter a manual location, such as a zip code, such that when GPS is off, all apps will pull from that location? I guess they want you to keep your GPS enabled.

  • nismo034

Hi CM team, love your work and understand there is alot of demand for this and that. But will you be able to port this onto the Samsung Wave s8500?

I’ve seen on other forums people are willing to donate to see Android on the Samsung Wave. Some are saying they will donate the difference in price between the Samsung Wave and Samsung Galaxy S!

    Cheers

  • Beermit

Can’t even begin to express my excitement for CM6!
Been rockin CM5 on my Dream for over a month with hardly any problems.
Let me just say it does run like a dream thanks to you! ;-)

And when I get an Evo, I better have some CM ready to go for it haha.

But thanks again, for all your hard work and devotion to this project. Take all the time you need to get everything working. I’m sure it’ll be worth it.

  • oscar

  • InnocentEd

Can’t wait! I have been jumping from Froyo build to Froyo build all of which had problems here or there and never gave me the smooth operation of your 2.1 build.

I really come back everyday hoping for updates :) haha

  • SamIAm

Please work on EVO…. i literally come here 10 to 15 time a day to find any new update
