postheadericon Quick fix – v4.2.1

I uploaded 4.2.1 to fix an issue on Dream/G1 hardware (no boot animation, probably other things). Sorry about that. Enjoy :)

  • Updated from 4.1.9999 to 4.21 on MT3G using CM Updater. Upgrade went fine except it hung on the Formatting Cache step but also brought up recovery menu on top of the unbox image. After waiting about 10 mins I selected Reboot and the install was successful.

Only issue I seem to have found is that Videos recorded by the Camcorder don’t have the speakerphone on when played, and there is no option to turn it on. So you have to hold the phone to your ear to hear the volume.

Quesions I have are How can I tell if I’m using the Locci’s browser? I don’t seem to see a difference between this browser and the stock donut browser. I’m sure I’m missing something!

Great Work Cyanogen! Phone is fast and very responsive! Best update yet!

  • Matt:

updated from 4.1.99 (maybe .999) to 4.2.1, man. Speed difference is enormous, animations are faster, smoother, etc. It’s back to “brand new” speeds and faster.

I wonder how this will work with Enoch (does it)?

I don’t mind the tab thing at the bottom, but it almost makes me wonder if there’s a way to enable us to have 2 extra icons on the left and right side of the tab, giving more home screen room.

  • Andrew Ward:

@Arno. I have had the same problem with icons disappearing.

  • Andrew Ward:

oh and I like the new drawer handle!

  • JG:

Currently running 4.1.99, getting ready to flash to 4.2.1. General question: I have my sd card partitioned for apps2sd, and even after I wiped for upgrading to 4.1.99 (from I believe 4.0.4), apps I had downloaded were still installed. How would I go about clearing out all those apps for a fresh slate of just 4.2.1 apps + google provided (from that HTC recovery image) apps?

  • Danny:

I like the new drawer handle too. I never was a fan of the original android drawer handle.

@Matt, the problem with putting icons on either side of the drawer handle is that the handle actually spans across the whole bottom of the screen. The space on either side of the handle graphic is technically a transparent part of the handle. Notice that you can bring up the application drawer by sliding your finger up on either the bottom left or bottom right corner of the screen as well as on the visible drawer handle.

  • Danny:

another thing, I have the same problem Arno and Andrew mentioned with icons (and widgets) disappearing from my home screen. It’s gone totally blank on me twice since I upgraded to 4.2.1. Instead of rebooting my phone, I was able to get it back by going to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Home and select Force Stop. Then I hit the home button and wait a couple of minutes for the home screen to eventually come back up, reloading all my icons and widgets. It’s still a pain, but it’s quicker than a reboot and you don’t have to take your phone “offline”.

  • Everything is running alot snappier i still loose my icons on the home screen for a few seconds but they are comming back unlike the previous versions.

Does anyone know if the OBEX support Cyan is talking about will support Bluetooth compact keyboard connectivity? the write up in the tiny url he tweeted doesn’t mention it

    thanks

  • Dan:

Anyone else have the Touch Input keyboard force close on them with the 4.2.1 build?

  • rmcgilvray:

    @ jgk5020

The browser has double tap zoom in, triple tap zoom out control and also supports multitouch pinch zoom in/out like iphone.

  • Thanks @rmcgilvray! How about the Dialer? What are the enhancements there? Also, anyone having problems with volume on movies recorded with camcorder? Volume only heard if phone held to hear like a phone call with no speakerphone!

    Thanks!

  • rmcgilvray:

Not sure I can speak to what the dialer improvements may be…
My videos play back out of the main speaker in both the “gallery” app and the “videos” app. you may boot into the recovery image and alt-x to the console, press enter and then:
    fix_permissions

    See if that solves it.

Just updated my G1 over the weekend from JF’s last Rom to your 4.2.1. I did a wipe as suggested in your How to, and eveything is working. Its so much faster than JF’s rom, which I thought was not bad, and that it was unfortunate that he stopped developing rom’s, and I guess im lucky that he suggested to everyone that uses his rom, to try yours. Thanks again for all your hard work.

  • acavin:

just upgraded to 4.2.1 and I am also having issues with Touch Input force closing, I cannot get it to work at all. Adnroid keyboard is working fine….but would much rather have HTC Touch Input….any ideas? MT3G

  • Hi Cyanogen, I’ve installed 4.2.1 version hoping to solve a bug I want to report to you. On “Wi-Fi settings” section, Turn Wi-Fi on and then press “Menu”, select “Scan” and nothing happens (usually says “scanning” below “Wi-Fi”), now I must wait the G1 auto-scan cause cannot trigger it by myself. I really don’t know if it is either a ROM issue or MY G1 issue.

Thanx for the ROM updates man, I appreciate your work, cheers!

  • acavin:

just an update for the HTC Touch Input….I posted a little early…I found the fix on the XDA thread….thanks…

  • Yaya:

Can you apply the CyanogenMod to the new T-Mobile Pulse?

  • Kurt:

Is anyone else having issues with bluetooth audio intermittant periods of short audio loss, or with crashes more often than for 4.1.9999?

This version is definitely much smoother on screen transitions and generally seems more nimble, except for crashing. Perhaps an issue with wi-fi data I/O?

  • Kurt:

it might be bluetooth causing the shutdowns. looking into culprits…

  • Dar:

I keep getting “the process android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly”. Please try again.

What do I do now? I could not install any application from market at all. Only from Slideme.

Thank you in advance for all the help and instruction to solve this.

    Dar

  • sparks:

anyone getting a lot of FC’s after adding the myfaves.apk?

    thanks

  • Dar:

Not sure what to do from all these force closes. “Sorry! The process android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.” This happens after I updated to 4.2.1 from 4.1.9999.
    Please help. Thanks,

    Dar

  • timbits:

the market doesn’t work after i flash a theme

  • sparks:

another thing worth mentioning, is that on a site to view my houses webcam, for some reason when i click the link , the brower randomly opens my txt message, new message screen. straight to that, new message screen

about the myfaves FC, i did a fixpermissions run, and it seems to have not come up but only once, compared to multiple times, and scenarios.

  • Arno:

@Danny – I will try that next time. Thanks so much for the tip!

I also noticed that about the drawer, it is the whole bottom of the screen but invisible. I like the new drawer better though. If that’s the price of progress I’ll gladly take it. :)

  • timbits:

    just restart the phone

  • timbits:

the market doesn’t work after i flash a theme plz help me

  • Dar:

Got it to work now. Didn’t do anything much at all but was just restarting it many times during trying to figuring things out. Now market installation is OK and no force closing.

  • timbits:

    so i just restart

  • grey:

FLAC support is definitely hella buggy. Music plays, but display hangs for a while, can’t access music player even as music is still playing, eventually reboots even. On a g1, 4.1.99999whatevz was fine with flacs & wonderful!

  • bdate:

Thanks for the update, I know you work hard and just a quick question. Any reason why Google Voice won’t work with the 4.2 rom?

  • buzzdroidx:

calling this build stable is a stretch. Head to your thread on xda and see what i mean.2 days explosion of sync, fc lost root failed calls and audio etc etc with many users. the broken posts outnumber the rockon! posts. but thats the nature of always in beta…

  • RIBoSoME:

Thx for the new version, seems really to be very fast! But I have a problem with the overclock widget…which shows my CPU 95% of the time @ 528 mhz! Also after killing all tasks….
I just came back from a 2 hours meeting, and my battery level decreased by +- 10%

    With 4.1.999(9) I hadn’t this problem.

Anyone else with the same problem here?

PS: sorry for my bad english
    thx, ribo

  • Evan:

For some reason, Google Voice force closes on me immediately after login. Also, I did notice a weird reboot this morning, without any provocation.

I am running SetCPU. Is that no longer needed?

  • Evan:

Uh oh, I just got a mysterious shutdown. I had to remove the battery to get the phone to start back up. I will be removing SetCPU and see if that fixes my stability issues.

  • Something in the GV update isn’t playing well with 4.2.1 … i tried uninstalling the app, rebooting, installing, rebooting and repairing permissions, but still no dice.

I know it’s not your bad, but since Google isn’t developing apps for support with custom roms, could you help fix it? GV is so prolific, i think there are a lot of folks hurting right now.

Help us Cyanogen Kenobi, you’re our only hope!

  • @Evan, I’m having Google Voice problems, too. I log in and it sits at “downloading” forever. I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled and uninstalled/wiped/reinstalled, still having the same problem.

    – Joe Levi

  • Alex:

the new drawer handle is horrible! also, can’t download new apps from market even after rebooting the device.

  • Evan:

    @Joe, @Christian

Is there a way to get a log without ADB? I never could get it to install on my computer!

  • Jan:

When incoming call, you cant answer, the phone just rings. Got to pick the battery. Nordic HTC.” back on 4.1.9999 and it works fine.

  • Adam:

The new Google Voice update dosen’t isnt working with the older 4.1 versions either.

  • Genkai Nashi:

Hey Cyanogen, will you be adding any of Eclair’s features to future versions now that it’s added to the SDK? Would love to see Cyan Eclair Version.

  • Twewi:

Google Voice update last night doesn’t work with cm. There’s an app in the matket called GV. It’s not as good and no longer updated, but at least you can use your Google Voice number. Hope this gets fixed soon!

  • yz99:

@all that having problem with google voice: If you have a backup of an older version of gv (I use mybackup pro), you can restore the older version and it works with this version of mod.

  • yz99:

While I love the snappiness of Cyanogen’s rom in general, I do have to say that I’m not a big fan of the auto rotation of home screen. More often than not, the auto rotation of home screen could happen at times when you don’t want – it basically affect the overall snappiness of the phone operation (and I think that’s why google decided to NOT auto-rotate the home screen). I’m now using Panda Home on top of cm 4.2.1, very fast.

  • vafner:

the END button is not working after i try to configur it.
it is only possible to switch off and on, but the screen will stay on and will not turn off while pushing the END button

  • mapin:

Also having GV problems. Stuck at “Downloading” message when I launch GV. Seems to still receive/send GV voice calls.

I don’t have a backup of old GV version. Any ideas how to get that?

  • Jim D:

If anyone could post a copy of the GV 0.2 (prev version) apk it would be most appreciated. If you have it but don’t have hosting I can help with that.

  • I wonder whats gonna happen… android 2.0 is commin out, u gonna update for that? ^.^ i hope so it looks so bad ass!

  • Andrew Ward:

    Another Issue!
I can not merge calls with the cyanogen rom.
