What’s Coming Next..

A whole bunch of us have been working hard to get Android 2.1 (CM 5.0.7) running perfect on the HTC Dream and Magic phones and I think it’s nearly ready to go. This release is almost exactly the same as the Nexus One and Droid versions of CM now, minus a few of the heavier apps.

This was an incredible community effort and I hope everyone likes the result. Breathing new life into old hardware is always awesome.

I expect that a stable release of 5.0.7 should be ready for all devices in the next few days.

And after that.. Google has confirmed that Android 2.2 (FroYo) will be available for ION phones, so it’s guaranteed that CM-6 will continue to support the G1 also when the source code hits AOSP.

    Sounds great, I cant wait for the final to be released as its been awhile since last stable release. Hopefully it runs snappy and doesn’t get bogged down easy.

    Well done, guys; can’t wait for the new update. Because you have extended the life of my G1, I can now eBay my free upgrade (HTC Desire) and this should enable me to pay for some work that my Land Rover needs.

    CM really has helped me out.

    That is the news. I like the way you say it. You just say: there will be Froyo for you G1/Dream users. That is, the Google/T-Mobile never did. Sending you $! This is the way we all should follow.

    I’ve been running 5.0.7-DS test builds and they are, as the kids say these days, retarded boss. Cyanogen you make me so happy that I’m going to have to donate again when I get money.

    If Google Android team snaps up Cyanogen then Cyanogen is not Cyanogen anymore. He cannot thrive under corporate policy & bureaucracy.

    Absolutely cannot wait. My HTC Magic was running the best it every had on the most reccent version. It’s been a while since there has been a new CM for the g2.. did I mention I can’t wait?

    You have done a great job not only bringing 2.1 to my G1 but with the fact that it was possible. Just a couple of suggestions, in the call log can you please find a way to list multiple calls to one person as one like what was done in 4.2.15.1? Alittle annoying seeing a persons name 10 times for each individual call. Also noticed no pinch to zoom in gallery, liked that feature very much. And lastly maybe your logo in the background of the dialer screen, now that would be great. Thank you hope you don’t feel like I’m complaining just suggesting. CM 5.0.7 is very fast and responsive. Thank you again!

    Good work as always.

    There is a problem with all eclair-based ROMs (that’ I’ve tried) on the magic in a Japanese environment. All Japanese contacts are ordered in a seemingly random fashion because of Gmail lacking support for “furigana,” the phonetic readings for Chinese characters.

    Actually, the order is probably by character code.

    HTC’s cupcake and donut firmware fix this, though by adding furigana support.

    Would it be very difficult to add furigana support to CM 5 for magic? If so, I guess we’ll have to wait until HTC releases eclair firmware for the magic.

    I know your only Human but FROYO-cyanogenmod Would be one hell of an early x-mas. Im a die hard cy rom kinda guy and have been but froyo and flash with chrome to phone is just too much fun. I will be waiting !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! as patiently as possible

    And we do love cyanogen for that.i suppose eclair ported to g1 is still under beta and you are busy swatting the bugs… i guess we shouldnt expect you to port froyo to g1 anytime soon

    WOW! i have only just been brave enough to root my phone with (4.2.15.1). today i upgraded to 5.0.7 and wow i am impressed i love the work you guys do and am so happy. I now have android 2.1 which i probably would never get over the air from vodafone or google thanks!

    I updated from Cyanogen 5.0.6 to the factory froyo update and now my phone isnt as fast lol. Flash works though, which is cool. Hook me up with 5.0.7 so I can customize my phone again!

    I’m speechless! while big companie$ care for people to buy newer versions of phones for 300$ the little guy is letting those big bucks phone systems work on the older! I LOVE YOU! (no homo) you do stuff i only dream of doing! I appreciate everything the cyanogen community has done!

    Sir, I love you. I tried the earliest build of CM5 for the Dream, and it was quick, but had some nasty bugs. I’m glad that you’ve nearly got it perfected, and even happier that you’ll be bringing us Android 2.2!
