CyanogenMod 4.1.999

I’m calling this 4.1.999 because I’m waiting for the MT3G OTA, and my new installer is a little different. The ROM itself should be incredibly stable, though. This is a modified version of AOSP 1.6 without the proprietary bits. In order to get up and running the first time, you’ll need to follow some simple instructions.

Please visit the Wiki for information on how to install the Rom.

My install went fine on the MyTouch, but the accelerometer no longer seems to work. I can only view in vertical mode. Anyone else seen this?

To all people complaining of lag
I concur with Mr_Land in #48. I had an ext2 partition on my sd and the phone was lagging like crazy. I couldn’t even manage to reboot it without removing the battery (no adb shell access). After reading the ext2 vs ext3/4 comments, I rebooted to the recovery and (either use adb shell or go to console on the phone) run the upgrade_fs command. My phone’s now blazin! Try this before wiping or reverting anything

My updater notified me of the new update, so I don’t know if I have all the background info. Aside from the Google apps, is there any real significant change from 4.04? My G1 has been running great so just wondering if there is a technical reason to upgrade, or is it just the right thing to do.

I need to use power+back to get to the fastboot menu to do everything in the posted instructions. recovery (power+home) doesn’t do anything i’d need to do in order flash my Vodafone (Australia) magic 32B.
4.1.999 is working for me now though.

If at ANYTIME you get a hang error that asks you if you want to force close something called “acore,” the answer is WAIT! It corrupted my SD card twice before I caught on.

I am unable to pair with any bluetooth devices. If I click can multiple times, eventually one will be discovered, but “Unable to Connect”, message appaers.

Hello I am very new but also very interested in doing this. So I’m retarded when it comes to trying to figure this out. I have a tmobile mytouch 3g with version 1.6 on it and for the life of me I can’t figure out why I can’t seem to achieve my goal and get cyanogenmod on here I tried all night and just kept getting an error I tried the dreamin.nbh file and it did not work it was the only file on my sd card to. So what I’m asking is if someone can either help me out and break whatever process pertains to me down Barney style or please point me in the direction of an updated guide I can use. Also the flashrec thing does not work something about it not being compatible with the recovery image in the 1.6 version I think any help would be appreciated thank you.

    @vampzfreak

Hey go to my site (click my name) and get my email and we can figure out what you’re doing… I’ve got a TMO MyTouch 3G i rooted with 4.1.9.2 and i’ve upgraded to each one since.

I’m not the most experienced but i haven’t ran into too many troubles yet and i’d be willing to help.

  12. #12 by Jon Po on October 9, 2009 - 3:12 pm

4.1.999 is garbage. I’ve installed 3 times and all 3 times it did not let me get pass the start up screen where you enter your gmail account info and stuff. I’m not fucking with anymore of these half ass roms. I have installed all roms from hero to cm 4.1.111 so I know what I am doing. This rom is nowhere near stable and is likly to do some damage to the phone. Don’t lie saying its almost stable because thats bullshit.

Calendar sync is not working. What am I doing wrong?

  14. #14 by CraigM on October 9, 2009 - 3:52 pm

    @ACTPOHABT

Awhile back i was having the same problem… I did this.

Settings > Data Synchronization > Uncheck All! > back out of everything for 5min +- > Repeat.. to turn them all back on > Wait for everything to resync

    Hope it helps you too.

  15. #15 by Vinny on October 9, 2009 - 3:56 pm

Serisouly I am sticking with 4.11 for now Until a more stable version is out.

Hey man thanks for offering the help I sent you an email

  17. #17 by Frost on October 9, 2009 - 7:22 pm

I attempted to install this mod, everything went well at first. As soon as I rebooted, I got the following programs stopping unexpectedly:
    Google Partner Setup: com.google.android.googlepartnersetup

    com.android.calendar

    Google Apps:com.google.android.googleapps

    application Dialer com.android.phone

Now, I have an at&t simcard for my phone, so I have to enter the APN every time I factory reset, when I click APNs, I get the same thing as I do above “process com.android.settings has stopped unexpectedly, along with the dialer constantly popping up. Any idea how I can fix this? I’ve tried the nandroid backup, I’ve wiped, formatted my card and reinstalled 4.04, nothing is working ><

  18. #18 by Jim Philips on October 9, 2009 - 7:25 pm

My accelerometer problem seems to have come from a sloppy reboot after flashing ADP 1.6. I went through the process again and everything works fine now.

  19. #19 by Frost on October 9, 2009 - 7:56 pm

Wrecklessly installing and uninstalling randon things and reflashing the rom, everything went perfect and my problem is fixed, thanks cyan!

  21. #21 by Lisa on October 9, 2009 - 11:16 pm

When you upgrade, after flashing 4.1.99, when you get back to the recovery screen, drop into terminal and do a fs_update
. It will straighten out all the laggy biys and force closes. THEN flash 4.1.999. It makes a huge difference.
    Happy flashing, all ;)

  23. #23 by lavawallz on October 10, 2009 - 5:25 am

Ok ppl here we go now read this carefully…these are the tools you need to upgrade ur mods without a hassle so you won’t be up allnight blaming the world for ur mistakes :) step:1 have a flash drive in handy save all ur files on it even the htc 1.6 step:2 sd card and sdcard slot holder that should do the trick…sd cards don’t get messed up if think ur sd card is damaged just keep formatting it then go bak…and do ur thing…it does not hurt ur sd. If u don’t ur just plain lazy lol…remeber ppl save ur files. The modded files well that’s my time hope I helped some what.. ur freindly glider lavawallz..

@CraigM: thanks for the advice, but nothing seems to help in my case. Will keep looking for the solution.

  25. #25 by androidgril on October 10, 2009 - 9:46 am

Ok, I have always loved your roms! They rock! I just got my MT3 rooted it the first day. I’m running 4.1.999 but its laggy with donut. Do I need the 1.6 recovery and what’s the easiest way to do this. Your link on this site is confusing or I’m just dumb.

  26. #26 by mobyjuan on October 10, 2009 - 5:34 pm

For all those who say its slow I had the same problem until I did an update_fs in the recovery console. I think it has something to do with ext2 for second sdcard partition after that all worked fine didn’t even need to wipe

  27. #27 by chrisk on October 10, 2009 - 6:36 pm

I have a MTG3. After installing 4.1.99 I reboot go into console su to root then run fix_permissions. This runs fine and chmods everything it needs to. However I cannot find the update_fs or fs_update or fs_upgrade scripts. Where are they?

  28. #28 by Kenneth Wilson on October 10, 2009 - 9:50 pm

i installed 4.1.99 and everything seems to be working fine, however i recieve this force close on startup, “The application Google Partner Setup (process com.google.android.partnersetup) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.” and also the Android Marketplace fails to open.

  29. #29 by nando 510 on October 10, 2009 - 11:07 pm

Man,I’m glad all is well with my 4.1.999 seems cool………..how do I partition my sd card can anyone answer that for me please?

  30. #30 by Nellouk on October 11, 2009 - 10:42 am

installed latest rom found it to be very laggy converted ext2 up to ext3 runs like a dream converting to ext3 is a must with this rom and carry on with the good work your a star

  31. #31 by traNceonline on October 11, 2009 - 1:55 pm

Hi folks, it says “almost stable”
when i installed, and installed my apps, most of them dont work!! Market doestn start ! Other options in settings or somewhere else, sometimes dont start to! U click, and.. nothing? sometimes it BLINKES vor a glimpse, than disappears again and i have “error” “force close” buttons like all 30 minutes or so!
I updated from 4.0.4 Stable and i DID wipe and installed the 1.6 recovery image and so on! Everything like the tut says. it works, starts and is fast. but this bugs and errors suck. ill wait till next stable and use it again!

  32. #32 by dDon on October 11, 2009 - 5:16 pm

Love the update, but its way to slow at the time. Love the quick launch/search. Market never started up though, and the other apps (like contacts) took forever to start.
I’m running on a G1 with ext2 partition, but still it needs a performance update before i can use it.
I’m sticking with 4.04 with melange theme for now. Works like a charm.

  33. #33 by kojot1234 on October 11, 2009 - 6:10 pm

If you follow the steps correctly install htc ota rom then cyan’s 4.1.999 enter console still in recovery mode (1.4) type: upgrade_fs and then then done: fix_permissions. Everything should be fast and running. In case u didn’t wipe and its still lagging: wipe and repeat the steps again.

  34. #34 by Arno on October 11, 2009 - 6:17 pm

Ok, I have been using this .999 and it is ok, it runs better, but it is like a time bomb – no matter what you do, it crashes at one point. It is a step forward, but I wouldn’t call it a steady ROM.

Keep up the good work, guys! Can’t wait for the next super stable rom!

  35. #35 by kLyon on October 11, 2009 - 6:53 pm

To whoever first discovered/suggested it: formating my ext2 partition to ext4 completely solved the lagging problem. Thanks. And thanks again to CM.

Tried to root for the first time on a MyTouch 3G running stock Donut.

Recovery Image won’t even flash. Should I still be waiting for a new Recovery Image? I saw this how-to on downgrading to Cupcake, but looks like it might not work with never-before-rooted Donut MT3G:

    http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/22/how-to-unroot-your-mytouch-3g/

I’m really excited for wifi tethering and Cyanogen perf enhancements, but if I can’t flash recovery image I get nowhere.

Anyone, should I wait or try the above Cupcake downgrade?

  38. #38 by SuperSam on October 12, 2009 - 12:24 am

OK… I installed this a few days ago and I think it works well. I have seen a few force-closes but it does say it is experimental, right people? One tip — before you do any modding: Read, read, read.

I want to just say thanks for all the hard work that has gone into this. Most of these posts look like they are n00b gripe-fests and it made me feel bad for all the people that have put so much time in this.

    Getting of my soapbox…

    Jon Po:

“This rom is nowhere near stable and is likly to do some damage to the phone. Don’t lie saying its almost stable because thats bullshit.”

You are an asshole, Jon Po.

Are you a 12 year old kid? Do you have no manners? Just because you are not smart enough to follow simple directions to get this working on your phone doesn’t mean you should act like this.

This ROM is made by someone free of charge. They worked hard on it, in fact a lot of people have worked hard to get it to this point. It didn’t cost you a dime. If you don’t like it, put the stock ROM back on your phone.

  45. #45 by Dylan on October 12, 2009 - 6:26 am

Holy crap, what a difference. Was having the lagging, only able to run 1 maybe 2 programs at a time before just locking up, etc. Anyways, I ALT+W’d, then re flashed 4.1.999, restarted back into recovery, then changed my sd from fat32, ext2 to fat32, ext4, 30mb linux-swap. Re-Partitioned via Recovery Console command line and google/ xda instructions. Went from reboots that would take 5-7 min back down to about a minute. Everything else is lightning quick…. and to think I almost started to doubt Cyanogen’s ability to pull the best out of the Dream. Recommend this for anybody that’s having the same problems.

  46. #46 by kLyon on October 12, 2009 - 4:23 pm

Question: is anyone else missing the “data sync” options under settings? Or did they just go away with donut and I just now noticed? They were there before, and now I can’t find them.

  47. #47 by Dylan on October 12, 2009 - 6:38 pm

Klyon- I still have data sync, under settings, data sync. I dont know enough to speculate why you wouldn’t have it though. If your on the .99’s rom maybe try reflashing the HTC recovery, then cyans rom again?

  48. #48 by Dylan on October 12, 2009 - 6:47 pm

Oh and john po, you are an asshole. Try reading how other people are fixing your exact problem, before you start talking shit about the people that are writing your FREE software. Nobody thinks anymore before opening their mouth, it pisses me off.

  49. #49 by Arno on October 12, 2009 - 7:47 pm

Dylan: I second that (about John Poo)!

  50. #50 by Michael Magliotti on October 13, 2009 - 12:48 am

I keep getting an error message of ” The application Touch Input (process com.htcandroid.htcime) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again” I’m sure I did everything right, how can I fix this?
