I’m calling this 4.1.999 because I’m waiting for the MT3G OTA, and my new installer is a little different. The ROM itself should be incredibly stable, though. This is a modified version of AOSP 1.6 without the proprietary bits. In order to get up and running the first time, you’ll need to follow some simple instructions.
Please visit the Wiki for information on how to install the Rom.

Michael,
The HTC IME keyboard is busted in this build. Go to your settings, Locale & Text and disable “Touch Input.” You’ll have to use the stock keyboard for now.

I’ve always loved Cyanogen mods, but the last .999 broke my phones messaging. I can’t send or receive texts for some reason. Not sure why. It shows that they are sent, but never get to the person, and vice versa.

Press Home+Back to reboot
I checked the checksum of the file and is ok.
Any idea?

I’m getting ready to flash to the latest version but I am not as tech savvy as most of you so I am researching the process and working out my questions before I get too far in over my head. I have heard a lot of concerns about the lagginess and the fix_permissions command fixing this from the console screen of boot. I own a myTouch 3g and am unable to enter this command during the reboot because of no hard keyboard and the soft keyboard not being accessible. Is this step not required for myTouch? I think this is my only concern before flashing the latest.

This ROM is actually starting to piss me off. I’ve flashed several other ROMS before with NO issues, and this one, when flashed WITH a data wipe, will not sync my google contacts. I’m assuming that is because that is something proprietary to google? Even then, when I restored a backup, and tried it again without wiping, it loaded fine, worked fine, but all my contacts were gone, and once again, would not sync. Whats the deal?

Ok guys, I really can vouch for this rom. But here is a little story:
I installed the rom (and I did not have my SD card split for A2SD usage) and it was… well, it was ok, but not awesome. It would keep crashing at one point, it wasn’t as fast as I would hope it would be.
Then I decided to actually format the SD card and create an ext4 partition (there are instructions online how to do it). Guess what – my phone runs AMAZING, very fast, no lag, I have never had my phone run so smooth and fast. My sync works, everything functions perfectly.
For all having problems with this rom – create a partition, upgrade it to ext4 and enjoy. I would be extremely surprised if you still have the problems.
The only problem can be that some apps won’t work at first, but if you uninstall them and install them back on that problem usually disappears.
I really hope this helps you. The guys CM did a great job, give them credit after trying using the rom in the way it was originally intended to be – ext4!

Ouch, nothing but trouble upgrading from an older cyanogen-mod to this one. Without wiping: google calendar and gmail among others wouldn’t start anymore. With wiping: browser constantly force-closing. Used “Backup for Root users” to backup my data – but restoring doesn’t do a thing now.

Cyanogen has been awesome with all of his builds, and I am truly grateful for his work. However, I just find 4.1.999 to be way too buggy and too full of lags and random reboots to be considered anywhere near stable. I have reflashed 3 times, fixed permissions, and think I am going to have to just roll back to 4.1.111* to expect decent usability from my phone, which is a shame. Mainly the problems I have noticed have been home or process acore force closes resulting from any change to the phone- exiting programs to home, changing screen orientation, even selecting notifications; and also the phone will freeze if connected to a charger approximately half the time. Reflashing and/or fixing permissions does nothing for these issues, and I am merely posting this as a warning for any noobs looking for a stable or quasi-stable build. While I greatly appreciate his work, from my experiences with this build it needed to cook a little longer…

I also have a question, the market doesn’t see anymore the installed apps, to I have to remove as well the cache?

4.1.999 has been relatively good for me. I did experience spontaneous reboots and the “no more desktop icons” problems, but they were very infrequent. One of my friends had a catastrophic failure (reboot the phone and everything went awry). Locked @ ANDROID logo, unable to restore, unable to re-flash, pulled battery, swapped SD cards, reformatted SD cards (ext3), did all of the tricks of the trade to no avail. He finally went to T-Mo and they (surprisingly) gave him a refurbished replacement. It came with 1.5 so he reinstalled 4.1.999 and all is well (up to now). What was odd was that he had done nothing more than reboot the phone. But then again, 4.1.000 “is” experimental. Crossing my fingers and hoping for 4.2.

So I am fairly new to the cyanogen mod. I installed it a couple months ago and it has been by far the most stable mod out there. I recently tried to update using the cmupdater and it said I had to reflash for 4.1.999. No worries. I followed the instructions on the site and loaded the 1.6 recovery image. Now when I try to install cyanogen’s latest it verifies and the aborts the installation. Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated.

@ Gavin: I’ve never encountered that problem. u might wanna verify the 1.6 recovery image installed accordingly.. or prolly just wait for it like i do, as soon as u hit the trackball, just be ready to hit home right away lol… that worked for me on the recovery 1.6 image. but i didn’t have to do that for cyan’s rom.
By the way, i’ve experienced some lags on the 4.1.999. just wanna share it to u. i’m not quite sure which is causing the lag on my end coz other people said theirs worked fine. but i find 4.1.99 more useful and faster.

I just followed the wiki and got everything working. The ext4 partitioning REALLY helps with the speed of things. The only problem I have now is Bluetooth. It simply does not work. I scan for devices repeatedly and it never finds anything (I have at least 3 BT devices in range). I even made the G1 discoverable and none of my other BT enabled devices see it. I noticed after trolling through the comments here that the problem exists for other users, but they haven’t been answered/addressed. I really want to stick with this mod. It’s my favorite of all the developers out there. And I don’t want to have to go back to 4.1. Will this be fixed anytime soon? Also, just a small detail, the mod version shows up as 4.1.99 not 4.1.999. Don’t know if that matters. All that said, Cyanogen, you ROCK!

Doh! I’m such a bonehead! I didn’t even have 4.1.999 installed! I flashed it and now Bluetooth is working. The Power Control widget doesn’t work but I can live with that for now. I guess it pays to troll through the comments. Thanks Cyanogen for a truly awesome rom!

My turn now
I have quite a big problem – software updates don’t work.
When I open the Market and go through “my downloads” I only see versions I have installed (when I read app details the version displayed matches the one I have installed), but when I search the same app I can see the new version and the “update available”, and only then I can update the app. The Market also doesn’t notify my of any updates (since it obviously doesn’t see any). I haven’t seen anyone with such a problem, what can be the cause?
I tried reflashing, wiping and formatting ext partition on sd, to no avail.
Thanks for any help.

Hi, love the mods. I have one problem and please direct me if this is the wrong place to bring it up. I have 4.1.9999 now and since 4.1.99 I have had the worst time trying to tether my G1 with bluetooth and “Wireless Tether for root Users”. I am starting to have problems with connecting my phone to my computer….. with 4.1.999 and i waited for 4.1.9999 to come to find it has a simular problem.
When i connect my phone it gives me all the notifications and i click “Mount” and all is well than my phone reboots. Its still letting it communicate with the computer i was able to continue loadign my data onto it as the Android boot screen was up and once it just keep *notifying me about 20 times before i just got annoyed and pulled the cord
anyone else having this problem? i ran the fix_permissions script from the terminal emulator, rebooted battery pull ect. nothing fixed the problem
PS running MyTouch 3G

@Gavin: I had the same problem you did (when upgrading to 4.1.99, though). I rebooted the phone after installing the 1.6 development build (which you should not do), and I believe it writes over the bootloader and then prevents it from being updated.
The only way I found to fix it was to downgrade to RC29 and start over.
